Irene Cara appreciation thread

The first song I knew by her was Breakdance from a solid gold performance in the 80s. What a Feeling and Fame became favourites later on

Anyone else also into her and want to share some more songs by her?

I like Irene Cara though never heard any more songs than the ones you mention. I was a breaker in my youth in the 80s so I remember the Breakdance song though was into all sorts of other artists/types of music and never got around to listening to more of her songs. I am going to listen to some more of her music since you sparked my curiosity.

Edit: Flashdance - what a feeling - was the big hit from the movie I really liked.

Had a big crush on her as a kid. She is so talented. Too bad she doesn't do anything in a long time.

I really like her 1982 album 'Anyone Can See'. That early '80s New York City production can be really hit or miss but she had some really catchy songs plus I love her vocal delivery. And it didn't hurt to have Luther Vandross arranging and singing backgrounds. The Moroder album is great but it took them too long to get it out. The title song, "What A Feelin'" was 7 months old by the time the album was released. Kind of slowed down her momentum IMO. But that song had legs and garnered a Grammy, Golden Globe, and Oscar. One of my favorite Irene songs was a cut from the 'Anyone Can See' sessions that didn't make the album called "Found It". It was later used as the b-side of the "What A Feelin'" 12-inch single. There is a late '80s album I have not really taken to. Her 2011 2-CD set 'Presenting Hot Caramel" has some nice stuff she did with her all female band.

I thought she was cute on The Electric Company when I was a kid. I liked her more upbeat singles on the radio--"Flashdance," "Why Me?," and "Breakdance" from '83-'84. I know some of the earlier hits, too ("Fame," "Out Here on My Own," "Anyone Can See"), but I never dug deeper. She kind of disappeared pretty quickly.

"Be Your Number One", from her 1987 album. It wasn't the single but it should've been IMO.

I seem to remember hearing she sued her record company for unpaid royalties back in the mid-80's. That's why her career came to a screatching halt. I recently got a hold of her "Charsma" CD but I haven't listened to it yet. I know it flopped when it came out but I just wanted to own it since I have her first two CDs.

she was a descent enough actress also...loved the movie she did in 1985 with Tatum O'Neal "Certain Fury"

and it is a shame her album What A Feein' didn't do anything it had some great songs from it...Why Me, The Dream. Breakdance, You Were Made For Me and of coarse Flashdance!

also love Fame, Out Here On My Own and Anyone Can See

Get A Grip & Girlfriends from her 1987 album "Carasmatic" are descent as well

She has quite a few good songs. In addition to the ones mentioned, I really like "Romance '83" and "Talk Too Much" from What a Feelin'.

Fame was the first song I remember by Irene Cara 1980, then shortly after that I saw the movie Sparkle from 1976.
