Janet Jackson on roller skating with Prince

One of the other Jacksons brought Prince into Janet’s life long before she came to Minneapolis in 1985 to meet Jam and Lewis.

“Prince used to call my house when I was a kid before he became as famous as he became,” Jackson recalled. “He had a crush on my sister LaToya, and I’d always be the one to answer the phone. He used to come roller skate with our family sometimes. Then I had a couple of encounters with him in Minneapolis. We were never best friends, but we knew each other.”

That is so weird and random to me. I can't imagine Prince rollerskating with the Jackson family. But I would have loved to have seen it though! lol

And LeToya? Rebbie was always gorgeous to me. To each their own.

Prince had a crush on La Toya and that's what "Private Joy" is about, and why La Toya covered it.

La Toya was actually quite attractive when she was younger, before all of the plastic surgery.

I always found it a little odd that both La Toya and Rebbie covered Prince songs in the same year. I wonder if there is a story behind Rebbie's cover of "I Feel For You"? biggrin

Nice find...looking forward to the new Jam and Lewis album (I didn't know about this). On a related note, the Eddie Murphy/Prince roller-skating story makes me cry laughing every time I hear it:

I found some magazines from the 1970s with Jackson 5, and La Toya was always in there giving her "beauty tips", she was darn cute!

Latoya didn't sound all that impressed, it was like meh. She even said she didn't date him, and that it was a group of them that went skating. It sounds like Prince may have had a crush on her, but it was not mutual.

I hae to admit, i've closley taken note of who has and who has not paid tribute to Prince since his passing. I can't even recall her saying anything. I get that her bro was a 'competitor' of Prince's and i also get that Prince prob was not the easiest to get on with but this 'Icon' or "Legend' owes a HELL of a lot to Prince. her entire sound that made her famours was Prince's sound!!! Before that, she was aleady working with Jesse so some acknowledgement would have been nice..i'd say furhter, is owed.

Janet was already starting to duck the industry (or vice versa) after 2008's Discipline when she dutifully made a tribute to Michael summer 2009, but after that we didn't see her.

Now, late 2015 she launches a comeback album and tour, but stops again APRIL 2016 to tend to her pregnancy.

I agree with what you are saying, but she wasn't performing ANYWHERE in 2016 after that.

Janet has admitted that seeing "The Time" in concert was her inspiration, but we all know The Time was opening for Prince on that tour. We all know Prince kicked them Jimmy and Terry off the tour for producing S.O.S. Band, so in a way when she says thanks to Flyte Tyme, that is maybe as far as it diligently needs to be stated. Because it was really sink or swim. Prince never wrote anything for her.

Prince on MJ "Genius"
Prince on Janet "Genius' sister"

I wouldn't really feel like returning the sentiment either!

Maybe Janet doesn't have much to say about Prince because, if some remember, that once Prince was asked to describe Michael Jackson, and he said "genius" and then they said to describe Janet Jackson, and he replied "genius's sister" lol......I'm telling you, that man could throw shade when he wanted to. lol

Why should she??? Prince never had anything nice to say about her. He did nothing but shade her. Janet doesn't OWE Prince anything. So tried of folks always assigning her success to other people. Jimmy and Terry picked Janet. They wanted to work with her. She didn't take anything from him. It was GIVEN to her.

Janet has spoken fondly of Prince(r.i.p.)...But she's a bigger fan of The Time.

From what I've read, Janet has not historically made public statements about the passing of famous figures who haven't impacted her life directly. And Prince hasn't done that, never writing or producing any songs for her unlike Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis.

Absolutely correct I am sure if anyone ask her she would have made a statement i mean I do see the other posters point of view Prince is a icon she doesn't have to say anything personable how bout a rip prince tweet at least

Janet may have talked about the time, but she also talked about liking prince in junior high, and that coincides with his first 2-3 albums, and Damita jo was compared to dirty mind
