I like how Fiona Apple is growing in to her Tin Pan Alley ear.

I doubt many will have heard of him, but I'm going to say Davey MacManus, from The Crocketts then The Crimea.

I'll go with Jona Mitchell cause she was really good. My brother showed me her songs the other day and I though "she's very good".

Jona is really good y'all. I just listened to one of her songs and she was a fine lyricist. If you don't believe it go read the lyrics of her jams.

Have you heard of Jona Mitchell? She is really neat. All those acts are very good but, IMHO, Jona beats them. I didn't know much about her until I jammed to a few songs by her. I def advise.

I agree with the recommendation of Jona Mitchell. She's the genetically modified mutant sister of Joni. Neither as well known nor as popular as Joni but definitely worth a listen.
You may have a bit of a struggle finding her music though.

OH MY GOD, I can't believe I have been writing Jona all this time, lol. It was a typo. I meant Jony. But, mistakes aside, she is a really good lyricist. Too bad she has not gotten the credit she deserves. If I had a twitter I would start an hashtag trend: #CreditForJony

Lord! the bitchiness in this forum never ceases to end, sheesh! disbelief lol My choice would be a tie between Curtis Mayfield & Prince, Geminis sure know how to paint a vivid picture through their words and tell a story.

Putting John Lennan and not Paul McCartney as well? I know some Beatles fans who would go crazy at this.

They would, but it's reality.

As a melodist, musician, hell even songwriter, he's dead even or way better than Lennon depending on department, depending on perspective.... Buuut lyrically, those "Sailor Sam & Jailor Man" bicycle-built-for-two school marm lyrics of his ain't beating anybody. Lyrically he's on about the same level as Ringo wanting to be unda the sea.
