Artist getting Paid for Hit Lyrics they wrote for other Artist? Anybody have idea how much a Artist gets Paid for Hit Lyrics they wrote for other Artist? Or how much a Songwriter gets for a Hit?
For Example I see "Eminem" (Marhsall Mathers) was one of the writers for Akon's Hit "Smack That", any idea how much he got paid? Do they get just a certain amount for giving the song to the Singer? Or do they have clauses in a legal doc that says if it becomes a Hit they get more? |

Different people are paid different amounts for different songs. It depends on the contract and/or agreement between artists and record companies. | |

Cool. Any idea what a Average may be? I see on "Smack That", there were 3 other writers besides Eminem: Writer(s): LUIS EDGARDO RESTO, MARSHALL MATHERS, MIKE STRANGE, ALIAUNE THIAM |

Songwriting credits doesn't necessarily mean that a person actually wrote anything though, just that they're registered at the copyright office. Some bands give everybody in the group a credit, whether an individual member contributed to writing or not. A lot of Lennon/McCartney songs were written separately, but they made an agreement to credit each other. In some cases, people have helped to write songs but declined credit for different reasons. Like in the 1970s James Brown, used his young daughters names on some songs to get around the taxman. Label heads & artist managers have been known to put their names on songs without the songwriters knowledge. In the 1950s, certain famous radio DJs asked for songwriting credits in exchange for playing songs on the radio. Also songwriters have given credits to releatives or friends to help them out financially. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton | |

But no, there's no real average amount for songwriters. It's too varied to narrow down with any accuracy. | |

I heard that George Michael - who basically wrote all the Wham songs himself - actually gave songwriting co-credits of "Careless Whisper" to his Wham partner Andrew Ridgely, although the song was written jst by George Michael. Now this is probably one of the songs with lots of physical sales and continued airplay, and I bet Andrew receives a nice sum of money each year still.. |

It says Eminem produced the track as well in addition to being a featured guest, so thereotically he made the bulk off the track.
