MS. ROSS STRIKES AGAIN!!!

Sister Sledge (Debbie & Kim) are interviewed on UK soul queen Mica Paris' BBC radio show. About 39 minutes into the show Kim recounts the day the Motown superstar visited the studio and heard the tunes Nile and Bernard had prepared for the Sledge's follow-up to 'We Are Family'...

I always thought those songs were written specifically for Diana Ross. Guess I was wrong.
What a surprise.

Doesn't surprise me one bit. I really can't give you other examples since certain things were shared with me by people in this industry in confidence but this type of thing used to happen often where a bigger artist would hear songs being recorded by another artist and they would go to label execs and the bigger artist would end up with the songs instead.

Also, so glad that Mica has a radio show. Talk about a super under-rated singer. Mica is the real deal.

Aretha passed on Upside Down. So it then went to these broads before Diana?

Such a shame because,in my opinion, the Love Somebody Today album could have used a few more excellent tracks.Don't get me wrong, the album is very good but it lacks something really catchy and spectacular like "Upside Down".Miss Ross did what she had to do to get those songs and her album is all the better for it smile

I remember Vanessa Williams telling an interesting story about her first album. She had worked with LA and Babyface on a hot, catchy song called "Girlfriend" and she was very excited about having this song on her album.Next thing she knew, she heard this song a few days later on the radio, sung by a new singer named Pebbles eek Apparently LA and Babyface decided to give the track to Pebbles."They didn't even call me to let me know",Williams said."I found out when I heard it on the radio".

I bet there are many more similiar stories like this, lol.

Not a surprise. Give Diana credit she knows a hit when she hears it.

You can't blame Nile and Bernard for wanting to work with a legend.

Correction, Diana wanted to work with Niles and Bernard, not the other way around. Niles want to work with Donna Summer, but they were not on the same labels. Afterword he got talked into working with Madonna. He made it big working on her sophmore album and 3rd albums. The excutives didn't believe Niles when he said they would sell 20- 25 million worldwide. So instead he took a cut of the royalities. After that he said he was too expensive to be hired by other labels (his words).
