Maurice White Unreleased Songs To Be Issued On July 18

I hope this is better than the solo album White released in the 80s.

https://www.soultracks.co...ldnt-be-me

There aren’t many artists of the past half century who are as revered as Maurice White. As the visionary leader of Earth Wind & Fire, he changed the landscape of music, in sound and in message. And his great work leading EWF before his untimely death in 2016 made him a music legend who transcended categorization.

In addition to his work with EWF, Maurice White also recorded some solo work over the years. And for nearly thirty years, he frequently collaborated with legendary songwriter and producer Preston Glass, with the partnership resulting in more than 40 songs, many of which were never released.

Preston and Soul Music Records empresario David Nathan have collected twelve of these “lost” songs and are issuing them in the new collection, Manifestation, which will be released on July 16. And we’re extremely proud to provide SoulTrackers with a sneak peek of one of those never released songs. “I Couldn’t Be Me Without You” is a bouncy number, accentuated by electronic keyboards and fronted by that familiar Maurice White voice. Check out the World Premiere of “I Couldn’t Be Me Without You” below, and get ready for Manifestation.

Interesting. I know a few people weren't pleased with his solo album.

I actually liked it but the lead single Stand By Me was just pedestrian.

I loved I Need You. I actually thought it should have been bigger than it was and

was better than all of the ballads EWF released post the Powerlight album.

I'll give this a listen.

I liked his solo album, but to be honest, the production was kinda formulaic and by-the-numbers.In other words,it sounded like alot of other mid-80s albums at that time smile I was hoping that he would continue making solo albums, but that was the only one.Very interested in hearing these previously unreleased tracks.

it doesnt sound like the young Maurice that we all were accustomed to hearing...but that IS how Maurice sounded later in his life, after he had gotten sick and stopped touring, but continued to record...If you listen to the few songs that Maurice appears on EWFs last two studio lp releases, "Illumination" or "Now, Then and Forever", thats exactly how Maurice sounded.

This is some great stuff music it seems to be a mixture of older material recorded in the 80s and newer music that was probably recorded in the last decade or so.I wish we had liner notes with recording details. But it's a pleasant listen. The slower tracks are heavenly music

some of these tunes would have worked well on some of the latter-day EW&F albums....”Panic Button”,for example.

there was a bonus song on the digital version of the Earth, Wind & Fire - "Illumination" album (2005), named "Love Together" produced by Raphael Saadiq, that was as good as any of their golden era 1973 - 1981 hits...im still blown away that it went almost unnoticed...its on Tidal and Youtube..

There were a few good songs on that "Illumination" album. But, I never understood why EW&F needed to feature rappers on the album??? disbelief

only 2 songs have rappers on them

Lovely People (with Will.I.Am)
This Is How I Feel (with Big Boi)

...i love hip hop, but when EWF used it, they would always feature rappers that were either past their prime or never that good to begin with

Earth Wind & Fire is responsible for some of the greatest album covers of all time, but maybe to keep the focus on their legendary and iconic leader for his posthumous solo release, his people wanted to keep it simple and show him in his full vibrant glory without any distracting iconography.

same. here....so unexpected...when i did see the release date announced over the weekend, i cringed, thinking that it was going to be some subpar leftovers and throwaway parts of song ideas, thrown together as a cash-grab...but this is good stuff for real...

I posed the question to David Nathan and he said a physical CD release is currently under consideration.

Two songs too many. lol I know often times veteran acts do these things thinking it's going to make them relevant for whatever decade they are currently in. But, for artists who have been around since the 60s, 70 or even 80s and are still actively recording, I don't quite understand the need to prove their relevancy.

"Show Me The Way" (prod by Raphael Saadiq)
"Pure Gold" (prod by jimmyjam & terry lewis)
"Love Together" (bonus song)
"Work It Out"
"To You" ft. Brian McKnight (sounds like After The Love Is Gone, near the end of the song)
"Lovely People"
"Liberation" (jazz instrumental)

...those are the best songs on Illumination...espaecially "Love Together" which should have been released as a single...
