So When Did It Happen That A New Janet Jackson Release Wasn't A Big Deal On Here?

Maybe because the bigger Janet fans don't really post here much any more. They tended to only participate in Janet threads, and not ones about other acts. I've seen LaToya mentioned here more recently, mostly because of one poster. This part of the site is kinda ghost town in general. I guess there's no new D'Angelo album for them to talk about. lol I think also because of Janet getting blacklisted after the superbowl, she has kind of dropped out of the mainstream keeping up with her.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

"Whoops Now" is not a new track. That's what you linked. shrug

Here's more 411 on the current state of embedding of videos: https://prince.org/msg/3/459586

You can link whatever you wish, including "Whoops Now", a bonus track from 1993's janet. album.

Oops my bad.

That explains a lot.

Guess I was thrown off because this is a "new" video?

I don't know if it was previously on her channel. I just don't remember. I also wondered if it wasn't one of the alleged remastered copies that was done, although they were supposed to simply replace an existing video. I think the former may be true.

Plus it's a good summer bop.

The video is not new. It was released overseas in 1994. And has been on YouTube for ages. What's "new" is the clip's recent addition to Janet's official YouTube channel. Lots of Janet's music videos are not on her official YouTube channel. I don't know what's up with that. Maybe she is know taking steps to rectify that.

"Whoops Now" sounds so out of place on the "Janet" album. I always thought it sounded like something that was recorded in the early 80s, like during "Dream Street" sessions.

Probably because we are on a Prince board and we are more interested in Prince, then Janet Jackson. smile

That's probably why it was a bonus track rather than part of the album proper. To me, it's the stepsister of stuff like "Escapade", "When I Think Of You". It is a unique bop, though. I love that she still made a video for it, though.

I remember when the album was out. I had it playing in the living room, but I was attempting to nap in my bedroom. The last tracks played through and I was just about in that last conscious place before I was out. It was quiet in the house. Until I heard voices. I'm like "Who the fuck is in my house?!?!" It was the voices at the beginning of "Whoops Now". I had no idea there was a bonus track, and Janet and the girls talking before it scared me wide awake. It was that moment when I learned about hidden bonus tracks.

Thanks, Janet.

I'm gonna guess it happened. .....RECENTLY?

i wouldn't know. Haven't cared for anything of hers since Rhythm Nation. The other stuff turned lounge ultra chill feminista....which is fine if you like that stuff. But it turned into practically talking since she doesn't sing so well

That last album Unbreakable with Jam & Lewis was tight. A few really nice slow burners, my favorite is Night. Dream Maker and Shoulda Known Better are great too. Its not a lifechanging product but it is a lovely little album and a welcome return to form.

Janet has been getting AWARD AFTER AWARD AFTER AWARD in the past year and was just inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame. Plus she just had a MEGA hit last year with 'Made For Now' that topped the US Dance Club Songs chart, becoming Janet's 20th number one single.

She also will have a new album coming out next year on her independent label Rhythm Nation Records. That will set a record for the only artist that has released an album in over 4 consecutive decades.

The past year eh? So you don't think that has anything to do with Les Moonves getting fired from CBS last year. It's been reported that he was the main person behind getting Janet banned from radio & TV.

Even if he did! Karma has caught up with him. Now Janet has added Vegas to her 175 million dollar fortune.
