post all afternoon yesterday. The "Choirgirl" bees made me pull out that album again and it has grabbed me once more. To me, that is a perfect album. Even better than P's Sign. Ok, artistically it might not be on the same level as Sign but it's the most wonderful, deep dark depressing haunting and beautifully redeeming album I know. It's soundscape is otherworldly. i like this album but i need to be in the mood to hear this specific tori cd. i usually find myself listening to under the pink, boys for pele or scarlet's walk. They just seem like perfect examples of what tori is all about. That sounds really stupid but it's just how i feel. choirgirl, strange little girl and venus and back just seemed like she was trying to show us that she can do more. but we already knew that. i like those CDs for what they are but they get minimal play in my stereo. Shit, they're still better than most of what's out there, i guess.

"GOD" and "crucify" are brilliant.
i have a video with her doing bruce's "i'm on fire" that was really cool. i really like that "fire on the side" song she did when she had that big jersey girl hair too.

I made a Choirgirl cd; put the whole album on, followed by remixes and bsides: Spark - Mainline Cherry (Ambient Spark) Cruel - (Shady Feline Mix) this song, can't get enough of it. Even the striped down version she did on the Strange Little Tour is amazing. Bachlorette Purple People Never Seen Blue Beulah Land Oh, the exquisite pain. I love it.

I'm a rabid fan of Tori. She's absolutely brilliant! My new fave album is Scarlet's Walk, but after that, its probably Under The Pink
I've seen her, at least once on every tour since Pink and she never ceases to amaze me. I just saw her this past Sunday in Houston, and was blown away yet again! (and BTW, she played "Wrapped Around Your Finger"). Good excercise in free style composing and therefor not the firm feel that her two previous albums had. I did not have the patience for her most obscure lyrics and the b-sides kind of sucked and hardly ever make any of my compilations. Now, "Do It Again", the b-side of Spark, now that is a great song. That computer beat. I think someone should give that lady a Lynn computer and see what she comes up with. Urgh. No no no no NOOO. You did not just say that her b-sides aren't good. Most of her b-sides are as good, if not better than most of the songs on here albums [which by the by are fcking amazing most of the time]. Here are some of her b-sides and non album tracks. I've made me a 3cd set of them. DISC 1: Merman Never Seen Blue Upside Down Butterfly Beulah Land Sugar Black Swan Honey Frog On My Toe Home On The Range Mary Samurai Losing My Religion DISC 2: Alamo Here In My Head Bachelorette Cooling London Girls Only Women Bleed Take To The Sky Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout Flying Dutchman This Old Man The Happy Workers Famous Blue Raincoat Do It Again DISC 3: Carnival A Case Of You Sister Janet After All Siren Smells Like Teen Spirit Thoughts Strange Fruit Angie Daisy Dead Petals Muhammed My Friend Thank You The Sandwich Song Her covers of "Famous Blue Raincoat" and "Thank You" are beyond description. I could babble about them all day. Songs like "Never Seen Blue", "Buelah Land" and "Sister Janet" could have easily been on any of her albums. "Cooling" and "Sugar" and oh fuck it, I'll just rave for another 600 words if I go on like this. Suffice to say that I object heavily to claims that her b-sides are not good enough. Shame!!! I totally agree. Her B-sides are just as good, if not better, than the albums. I also did my own 3 disc set (feel free to use this for yourself if you like): Upside Down: The Bee Sides Volume One- 1. The Pool 2. Upside Down 3. Mary 4. Sugar 5. Sister Janet 6. Take To The Sky 7. Sweet Dreams 8. Home On The Range- Cherokee Edition 9. Humpty Dumpty 10. Flying Dutchman 11. Ode To The Banana King Pt. 1 12. Hre, In My Head 13. Daisy Dead Petals 14. Honey 15. Black Swan 16. Thoughts 17. All The Girls Hate Her 18. Over It 19. Song For Eric The Bee Sides Volume Two- 1. Finn (intro) 2. Siren 3. Butterfly 4. Frog On My Toe 5. Sister Named Desire 6. Alamo 7. Never Seen Blue 8. Beulah Land 9. Cooling [Original Studio Version] 10. Graveyard 11. Toodles Mr. Jim 12. Hungarian Wedding Song 13. Happy Workers 14. Blue Skies 15. Tombigbee 16. Operation Peter Pan 17. Batchelorette 18. Purple People (Christmas In Space) [Original Studio Version] 19. Samurai 20. Amazing Grace/ Til The Chicken 21. Merman Covergirls 1. A Case Of You 2. If 6 Was 9 3. Strange Fruit 4. Thank You 5. Angie 6. Smells Like Teen Spirit 7. Ring My Bell 8. Famous Blue Raincoat 9. I'm On Fire 10. Losing My Religion 11. Carnival 12. Do It Again 13. Down By The Seaside [with Robert Plant] 14. After All 15. Only Women Bleed 16. London Girls 17. That's What I Like, Mick (The Sandwich Song) 18. This Old Man [This message was edited Tue Apr 29 15:25:53 PDT 2003 by JediMaster] Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. Currently my fav Tori song is "Abbey Road". I used to think
it was a cover, but I'm not sure now. I think it's a Tori original. It's the perfect chill-out song for when you come home on a sundaymorning. It's the last song I play before I pull up into my street. It relaxes every single muscle in your body and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I LOVE Kate Bush, but I really don't like to compare them. Tori is obviously influenced by her, but her music is so different in style that I really don't see the need for comparison. Kate has more in common with Peter Gabriel, in my opinion, than Tori. Tori is more in the vein of Carol King, with a whole lot of Jim Morrison & Robert Plant thrown in. Just my opinion.
