Award-winning documentarian Bobby J. Brown exposes countless dark secrets of the Hall of Fame band Parliament Funkadelic. Members open up about the unorthodox methods in which they were paid, heavily exploited, and the creativity behind this unique genre of music. The Iconic band is known for providing one of the most flamboyant, over-thetop live concert experiences in music, which at times made the stage show pale in comparison. Experience the “Mothership” land live on stage, and groove with the songs “Flashlight”, “Chocolate City”, “Tear the Roof Off”, “Make my Funk the P-Funk”, “The Mothership Connection” and “Atomic Dog.” The group’s rise to the top began in Plainfield, New Jersey in the mid 1960’s as the Parliaments, The younger musicians of this dynamic band formed the group Funkadelic. Both groups Parliament and Funkadelic, were the first musicians making music for two different record labels. The name “Parliament- Funkadelic” became the catchall term for the multiple bands. This is the untold story of the rise and fall of the greatest funk band ever.

So, I'm guessing it's a film that holds GC in a negative light? PRINCE: Always and Forever

Been wanting to see it for some time glad it's finally out on disc. From what I've heard it's not nearly the "hit piece" on The Dr it's made out to be. It made the rounds at a few independent film fests over the last few years.
Producer says he got a verbal ok to talk to GC from his camp but the night of the interview, The Dr slipped out the back door on him. That's what he says. I wanna see it where did you get it from? [Edited 1/17/19 19:22pm]

Yes I recall seeing the q and a, this is where he talks about how he tried to get to the Dr for a talk. I’m no GC apologist by no means and in no way know what went on only what I’ve been privy to down thru the years. But they seem to be trying to tarnish the man’s legacy. I’m not so sure they didn’t know what they were into from the get go. Take Bootsy for example. He will tell you a cat like GC was saying I’m not responsible for anything. The word I got was he pulled Garry and crew out of Plainfield and took up to Canada in an effort to keep them off of smack, which had rooted itself in Jersey. Dawn Silva has said she is writing a book. The biz is already slimy enough. When you’ve got an organization as big as PF got eventually it’s gotta collapse and there is going to be some casualties. There is nothing in music comparable to it.

No secret Judi has zero love for The Dr. Talked to her myself at a Woo Warriors gig some years ago. She’s got some tales for ya alright. Sometimes I just don’t know. I’ve ordered the disc though. I believe Bigfoot is behind it. If my predictions are correct, I’m expecting to see ‘Mutiny on the Mamaship : The Motion Picture’ lol.

One thing I have noticed throughout the years is that,in almost every band (or musical organization) situation, you are bound to hear nasty stories about the "leader" and how he treated (or mistreated) others.
We've heard the horror stories about Berry Gordy.Several of the Motown artists sued him.
We've heard the horror stories about Prince and the issues he had with some of his proteges and associates.
We've heard a few stories from Eagles members who had problems with the leaders Glenn Frey and Don Henley.
We've heard a few stories about Maurice White from some of the Earth Wind & Fire members.
The stories usually involve egos, disputes about money/payment,not getting proper credit, etc.

And don't forget the quintessential examples, JB and Sly. I dunno, it occurs to me maybe one has to be a certain way to run a band situation. All these egos you've got to manage, try to keep a control on. It takes a certain ego itself to be in charge of that. Mallia used to talk about the mind games The Dr would play on both Parlet & The Brides. Take one group on tour in Europe and not let the other perform. That type chyt. Dawn has talked about The Brides success being sabatoged from within the organization once they hit with Disco To Go. She believed it was rooted in misogyny.

yeah,it's obvious that the female groups (Brides Of Funkenstein and Parlet) got a raw deal.Brides Of Funkenstein actually recorded a third album,Shadows On The Wall Shaped Like The Hat You Wore,in 1980 but it was never released (thus ending their brief career as a group).Similarly, after Parlet's third album, the under-promoted Play Me Or Trade Me,they were ignored and discarded too.Neither group seemed like a priority to George.

Dawn says when the fire hot Disco To Go started moving up the charts, they were sent out for promotional performances with absolutely no management. They would get to the gig and there would be, like, nothing for support. Says someone within the Thang organization did it. She could never trace the trail but felt it. The Brides did receive a 'lil more than Parlet. They got absolutely nothing. And the records were quality music. It's not like they were releasing fluff, some of that stuff was the best music coming out of the whole camp at the time.

Just watched it. Scratch my earlier comments. This is not a ‘hit’ piece at all. I don’t know what to say other than see it for yourself and see how it affects you. It’s got some rare footage and pics in it. Parts of it is really hard to watch. To describe it in a word, heartbreaking.

I just watched it,too I like all of the rare footage. The stories from the ex-members are VERY interesting,to say the least and yes, some of it is heartbreaking to hear.I just wish it was longer. At only one hour long,I'm betting that there is alot more to this story.

I have to ask.....in the 70s,was it really OK to come out onstage naked? Seems like there would have been a law against that? lol
