Technically, it was released on single since it was released as the bside of Human Nature. So what would have been the point in re releasing it on single ? It was even the Bside of IJCSLY ! . Lady In My Life was the only track never released, when it could have easily been the 8th top ten off the album, with a music video. . Why it wasn't released as a single is one of the biggest mistery of the history of the music industry

I read it was considered but they probably saw no need. After the time the title track peaked, the album was the biggest in history and overexposure was becoming inevitable

State of Shock wasn't released to radio until June of 1984. But it s true that in a space of a few months, the single market was oversaturated with MJ. . Say say Say peaked on December 1983, then in January 1984 Somebody's Watching Me, The Man was supposed to be released on February, then cancelled but it got some airplay then Thriller peaked worldwide in march Farewell my Summer Love peaked in June State of Shock peaked on July... . It seemed a little overcrowded, but I think There was a window to release Lady In My Life in April 1984, for it to peak on may and would be gone for the release of State Of Shock. . Lady In My Life was the most potential hit of MJ that were never released, in part due to the popularity of MJ, and of course because the song is great and radio friendly . With a music video, the longer version as a Bsides, it would have been a top 10 hit on both sides of the Atlantic, and would have been an even greater achievement. . It would have been an all time classic for sure, another one for MJ s legacy. It s always good to take

also in the early summer of '84,many radio satations were playing "Tell Me I'm Not Dreamin",Jermaine Jackson's duet with Michael,even though it was never reelased as an official single.

After the song "Thriller" peaked,there just wasn't any way to release any more singles from Thriller.The songs would have been competing with each other on the charts,lol.

By the time December 83 came around, the album sales were through the roof so no point in releasing Baby Be Mine or Lady In My Life. By December 84, the album was 20x platinum in the US and over 30 million worldwide

There were stations doing "No Michael Jackson" Weekends lol
