Parliament's Newburgh sessions I must have overlooked this release. Some online surfing revealed that there is a vinyl version of this rehearsal from 1976. I'm sure the funkateers here know more about this! Looks like something worth getting... [Edited 8/24/18 13:59pm]

This is a widely circulating P-Funk bootleg. It was recorded in Hangar E at Stewart Airfield in Newburgh, New York on September 26, 1976 during the rehearsals for the P-Funk Earth Tour. There are several CD and vinyl copies available.

Just ordered it. Also on white vinyl, like the one posted by SoulAlive. It's on this Dutch record label:
www.funktothemaxrecords.com. But strangely enough, it seems like you can't buy this album on their website. [Edited 8/25/18 7:17am] [Edited 8/25/18 7:21am] [Edited 8/25/18 7:28am]

That's one of the reasons I wanted to buy it. Gettin to Know You is a favourite of mine too. George and the boys are always funking so hard that you tend to forget that they also can write great pop/soul songs. I'm Never Gonna Tell It is another example of this. There's a dvd called Live In France 2005 that has a performance of this song with violinist Lili Haydn. Great stuff!

Lili is the perfect collaborator on that and takes things to a whole nother level. I would love to see her back onstage with him before he sits down.

It's pretty fuckin' great especially because you don't really expect a violin on pop/soul music. Sly had Sid Page on his Small Talk album, Bob Dylan (another favourite of mine) had Scarlet Rivera on his Desire album, which included Hurricane. But still, a violin with a rock/funk band is unusual and it opens up your ears.

yeah, that's one of my favorite songs too.I don't think it was performed regularly on that 1976/77 tour,so it's nice to have a (very good) rehearsal version of it.

I'm only aware/in possession of the 1995 P-Vine release that (somewhat oddly) also contained 2 tracks from 1993. Has there been any official rerelease since? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mothership_Connection_Newberg_Session A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/
