Chaka Khan,of course smile

interestingly,Chaka doesn't like Mary's remake and even told her so.Mary admitted that she recorded it at 8:00 AM in the morning.Chaka replied "No,no,no...you should never be in a recording studio that early in the day" lol

lol I remember Mary saying when she first met Chaka, she asked her how did she like the remake? Chaka told her, "You sounded flat!". That's when Mary explained to her how they recorded the song early in the morning and Chaka told her not to record any more songs at 8am in the morning. lol And they have been friends ever since. biggrin

Mary's voice is just horrible. There is a weird dryness in her voice that grates on me like sandpaper.

All that said, her version of this classic song is a tragedy, at best. Even Sinbad slyly referenced it when talking to Chaka Khan on Vibe (when Prince & Larry were on, too) when his kids were liking Mary's version and said, "No, come here and listen to the real version".

And while I love Ms. Holloway, this song belongs to Chaka.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

While I enjoy her first four albums and several songs thereafter, and have a special affection for My Life because of my 1994 (different story), Mary's limitations, and the supremacy of Chaka's version, cannot be objectively disputed.

And let me just give an exception to my statement earlier (which I stand by), I do enjoy "Love No Limit", but I still feel like someone else could do it better. The covers I've heard of "Real Love" are always better than MJB.

Funny note: In 2007, my roommate bought me an MJB album for Christmas. I sorta looked at him like he was punking me. "I thought you liked Mary J. Blige". I told him I didn't. Apparently, I was bobbing my head in a store one time when "Just Fine" was on (albeit above a crowd of people, intercoms, & check out lanes). Needless to say, the album went unopened and I returned it the next day.

Mary's drama annoys me too. First, she goes thru drama, then she's over it, then it's something else. I get that we all go thru shit, but it seems she (like Taylor Swift & her constant mean-girl-status) has nothing to sing about with there being some sort of bruhaha in her life.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Hey, everyone has one song, at least. I can't fucking stand Lady Caca but I dig "The Edge of Glory" (it was written about her grandpa who was getting ready to die in a few days). Also, "You and I".

Same with Ms. Lip Sync herself, Britney Spears, "Toxic" is the shit. But the rest is just shit.
