Favorite Punk songs? Bands?

What's your personal favorite tracks and also songs that were important to the who punk community?

Also, have any particular favorite bands?

My husband is a massive ramones fan (he's an old school punk), so over the years I've grown to love them too (check out Morrison's version of Judy is a punk, it's pretty good). Also Lost Cherrees, Sham 69, Peter and the Test Tube Babies, Sex Pistols etc...

I tend to prefer post-punk (The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Magazine), but I dig Ramones, The Clash, and the Runaways among others. "Amoeba" by The Adolescents is pretty great, too.

I always thought of The Stooges as "proto-punk", but they are a great mention. Other early songs I love are Roxy Music's "Editions of You" and Brian Eno's "Third Uncle".

Can i get away with early Adam & The Antz? I love the 'Dirk wears White sox' album sooo much. Also the Peel sessions, before Adam went pop. 'Plastic Surgery', 'Zerox', 'Deutscher Girls'. All that shit.

Buzzcocks are my #1, followed by the Ramones and the Replacements. I like lots of others, like the Saints, Television, the Undertones, the Jam, the Clash, the Descendents, Husker Du, the Ruts, the Rezillos, and so on.

Skrewdriver are indeed a racist band (or certainly became one in the '80s), but please don't think all skinheads are racist. In fact the original skinhead movement in the late '60s in the UK grew out of the mod movement and was very much influenced by the Jamaican rude boys, both in the way the dressed and their love of reggae music. If you read about what are known as the original Trojan Skinheads, otherwise known as traditional skinheads, you'll see that they aren't the same as the white power skinheads that cae later on. There is also the SHARP movement (Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice) that distinguishes between themselves and the so called Boneheads, racist who adopted the skinhead look.

When it comes to punk I really like the bands that opened up their sound and were influenced by other genres, so for me the nuber one punk band is The Clash. Their early punky stuff from their debut album is great but I particulary love the London Calling album, with it's reggae, jazz, and rock n' roll influences. I actually used to live in Brixton in London, so that particular albu has a lot of resonance for me with the sings London Calling, and The Guns Of Brixton (I used to love listening to that one on my walkman at the back of the bus heading for a night out).

The Jam were also a great band, perhaps not strictly punk, but again it was nice how they opened up their sound with the mod and soul influence.

Heck yeah, Refused are bad ass. The album The Shape of Punk to Come, is a
classic.

A couple other Punk, hardcore punk, or close enough-punk, bands that i dig are Bane and Converge. Bane's album Give Blood is pretty good, and i absolutely lose my sh*t over Converge.

Anyway, i guess i would say that I'm a little more of a Hardcore Punk fan than i am of straight up Punk.

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.
