I know I'm late for this, but last March marked the 30th anniversary of the 2nd release by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince (aka Will Smith), "He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper"

This is the first real hip hop double album. The CD and cassette version never had all the tracks, or full versions (a la 1999).

It is quite an accomplishment considering how even of a listen it is.

The mixing is superb. I give props to Marley Marl all day long for his approach to sampling, but DJ Jazzy Jeff or Bryan "Chuck" New whoever was engineering and mixing THIS album got this stuff to sound so much smoother and balanced.

I suggest you put "As We Go" on full blast and go for a drive!

Dope FUCKING album and I've always hated how hip hop (in general) went through a Will Smith-hating phase like this album never came out. I was early in high school when this dropped- I loved this album and still do. Sorry, but I can't help but (as today's rappers say) "go in" on this thread.

Brand New Funk- still the jam. Period.

Charlie Mack- he's still 1st out of the limo.

As We Go- still my jam, especially the 30 second intro.

Parents Just Don't...- still kind of a corny song but it's one of Jazzy Jeff's dopest beats ever. Everytime I hear it, the drum round sample kills me.

My Buddy- was one of my favorite beat box jams UNTIL 1.) I was exposed to "Rock The House" (I purchased that album after I'd worn out He's The DJ) and 2.) I got a hold of Eric B.'s "My Melody" (Rakim's lyric about "...7 emcees put 'em in a line" was far superior to Fresh Prince's "...10 emcees lined up to battle".

He's The DJ- easiest the most underrated joint on the album and one of my all-time favorite Will Smith flows.

Those were my favorite joints on that. Again, great GREAT album.

I also highly rate their debut, Rock The House.

I like how they are still friends to this day. Who knew that DJ Jazzy Jeff was much older than Will? Black don't crack.

My parents didn't understand this so much.....they never bought it for me!
