I bought my ticket at Eventim(Karstadt), paid cash and the only thing they told me was that there were enough tickets left if I wanted to buy more tickets (for my friends, etc. ).

I´ll probably keep my ticket for July if I don´t go on a vacation.

I'm assuming with this new tour there is a new album about to drop.

Hope he at least drops a double album with24 tracks or more.

Lol, yeah. I know but I'm hoping someone puts a bug in his ear. It's what I found a tad disappointing with Black Messiah. After such a long hiatus I was hoping for something, an album much longer with new tracks. Imagine a new D' double album,24 tracks thats like a mix of Black Messiah. Voodoo and Brown Sugar with a few covers songs(which he always seems to do very well) and an old school gospel track would be fire.

I expected that, too, especially after all the teasing that Questlove did. He said that they had recorded so much material that would very likely be released right after Black Messiah.

Thanks for posting this!

Got me thinking about my first D’Angelo experience.

When Brown Sugar came out, it was the only album that worked in all situations for me.

My music selections were strictly segregated.

For dates, I had Luther, TTT, EWF, etc. (Eclectic dates got Prince)

With my homies in the car, or cruising to school with my windows down, it was Geto Boys, Pac, Wu-Tang, etc.

Brown Sugar was smooth enough for the right “date mood,” and banged hard enough to make 17 year-old-me feel tough in the car (😹).

I thought of it like an extension of what Tribe was doing (he had Bob friggin Power co-produce!!! And speaking of which, Tribe coulda worked on dates too, but Scenario kinda killed the mood haha). D had the keyboard chops to play what Tip and Ali were sampling. And he had a beatmaker’s ear, on the level Marley, Premier, Pete Rock, RZA, etc.

By 95 I wasn’t down with the post-New Jack sound, or whatever Teddy Riley and Jodeci were doing, anymore. D gave me something that felt fresh, and stayed timeless more than 20 years later.

Relly enjoyed the Lady version you posted, Goddess4real, it is similar to the one from the London Jazz Café CD.

This is my favorite version of Lady (that I know of). It is more of a jazzy version that I really dig. Some tasty guitar licks throughout this song. From 1.50 minute on some special soul magic starts happening for me!

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

D Angelo is a truly gifted artist, showman and intriguing man. He is one of my fav's of all time. I love all his work and he was an amazing specimen to look at during his prime lol. I wish he would release more music but I understand he is a complex man with many issues. I will continue to pray for D and wish him nothing but the best. He has been through a lot. Its such a shame. He is super talented.

I think that Prince's career intention at the jump was to build a cult and his own musical feifdom. He did that and the fans respond accordingly, to one's joy or chagrin. D'Angelo stated that his intention was to represent and uplift "Black music." Being a Black man himself, that is never a problem. As far as what his personal problems may be, holding him from greater solo/band output, I really don't know.

lol

I'd take comparisons between the fans of each artist from that aspect. In my observation, as far as DAngelo is concerned, his output has been of great quality, only a sliver in terms of recoreded contributions. He does carry the torch for soul & R&B perpetuating into the new millenium, and moreso perhaps offering a template to future contributors to the genre, so a solid to him for that! There are others out there who attempt to take a broader swipe with their musical conquests and I enjoy them also. D'Angelo is one part of a movement of excellent musicians out there. Whenever he takes a pause in his output, I'm cool with that. It definitely provides others the opportunity of a space to fill.

peace

It's comments like this that put me off him. His fans are a bit weird for my liking. Not even Prince fans talk about Prince in this way, and D'angelo ain't shit compared to Prince.

[Edited 3/2/18 12:19pm]

I have never seen people worship D’Angelo. In fact, I would say Princefans are much like Beyoncé and.

You think so ?

I think he´s got his worst phase long behind him (the hard drugs, the car crash, the obesity phase etc.) and he proved time and time again that he can bounce back and get in perfect mental and physical shape again. There are so many musicians who have done far worse than him and are still alive or have lived a long live despite their lifestyle choices (Steven Tyler, Keith Richards, James Brown, Lemmy Kilminster, Rick James and many more).

And Bob Marley probably smoked way more weed in his lifetime than D´Angelo could ever smoke in the next 50 years. lol

I´ve seen D´Angelo twice and both shows were absolutely phenomenal.

(2002 and 2015).

I'm not really speaking on D's talent, which is unquestionably solid. I'm talking about how people can be their own worst enemy at times.

Everyone is not the same. People's constitutions vary greatly and therefore, their tolerance does also. While someone else can tolerate an enormous amount of toxins in their body and still function, it's obvious that D cannot and I'm terribly worried about him.

I'm glad you have been fortunate enough to see him live because when I tried to do so the shows got cancelled due to his being ill. sad

Wow, that ´s unfortunate. I wish you could´ve seen him...he´s a great live artist.

But it felt a bit weird to see two former Prince associates, Jesse Johnson and Alan Leeds, at the show.

I mean, it was great that they were there....but still a weird feeling.

Agree on what you said about being your worst enemy though....I think more than any drug it is the inner feeling, the state of mind, the inner demons that hinder a musicians career, whereas some others can go through much more severe drug abuse and still function. Probably has to do with whether you´re using drugs for "fun" or in order to cope with something.

Yes, that´s a bit strange. I remember Questlove posting about tons of outtake material that they recorded that they had recorded that did not end up on Black Messiah and that was supposedly meant to be released "real soon" after Black Messiah, like an EP or extended album or whatever.

Maybe D is too much of a perfectionist ?

I have no idea.

So...was 2nd Coming the tentative title of that album? I vaguely remember Alan Leeds mentioning that title , too.

Perhaps several new songs will surface on the upcoming tour.

Ben Kane, Black Messiah's primary sound architect, has said more than once that D has a large body of unheard material. The guy is a stickler for perfection - for better or worse.

Of course he did. And to hear ?uestlove tell it, its one of the most gender-bending pieces of music since Dizzy & Bird (rolleyes) teasing and hyping since 99. I hope they keep the hype down to a minimum and release music consistently, at least remaster the "Voodoo" album with outtakes in the meantime.

I've often heard of artist recording lits abd lots of material for album and Im sure they have some material but not nearly as much as reported.

I recall Michael Jackson supposed to have recorded 60-70 songs for Bad but only selecting only 11 yet since Mikes death Ive heard very little.

Similar is Maxwell's BLACKsummersnight and blackSUMMERSnight and blacksummersNIGHT. promoted as being completed and release every yr. It is doubtful this was actually a completed project to begain with though I think the concept is cool

I'm sure D' has recorded additional material but probably not nearly as much as we are lead to believe like 30-40 unreleaded but not 100's (imo)

Maxwell´s concept of that album sounded cool to me, at first, but it also lead to high expectations and major disappointment because I loved his first two albums so much (and they were both GREAT concept albums) and then he followed it with a mediocre album like Now and made us wait too long with his Blacksummernight album.

I still like him a lot but kind of lost track of his releases due to that and the lack of coherent and catchy material.

And yes, I completely agree with you regarding the announcement of lots of material having been recorded and nothing to prove it, i.e. lack of released material.
