Guy 30th Anniversary Thread Now I know I'm a day late on this, but yesterday marks the 30th anniversary of the debut of Guy (Teddy Riley, Aaron Hall and Timmy Gatling, later replaced by Damion Hall). With Teddy at the helms of production (although Gene Griffin took the credit at first), this group would shatter the glass ceiling, bringing forth what would be known as New Jack Swing. Congrats to Teddy, Aaron, Timmy and Damion!

Thanks for all the threads remembering the beginning of the New Jack swing era, with TTT, Al B. sure and these "Guy"s, lol. This album brings back so many great memories of the fall of 1988 and I was a junior in high school. Still jamming to all of it to this day! Love is God, God is love, girls and boys love God above~

It was so cool to see them do much of this album love a few weeks ago, even You Can Call Me Crazy and Goodby Love was performed.
This album had the perfect mix of slow jams and uptempo jams. Not only that it was musically catchy and had a unique sound. The way of which it was recorded is very different than their contemporaries at the time. Groove Me even had Janet take notice. She insisted on meeting him after hearing the album she said in an interview. Luckily, he had the opprotunity to work with Michael instead. My favorite is "I Like" though. Even that midsection where the keys and drums stop and go in unison is just amazing. How did he think of that? Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records. | |
