so the comment box is exclusively for praise?...cmon now, get over youself...if i dont like something im free to express it...if i like it, i do the same...how is that simple concept lost on you?...

Not the first time we butt heads in here especially since you so freely like to call some successful african americans coons in here. So I have no problem checking your receipts.

some successful "african americans" ARE coons... The Wayans Brothers have always been at the forefront of coonery and stereotypical negro slapstick...

I was sick of her awhile ago, pretty much when I realized she is the Latin Nicki, who is the commercial Lil Kim etc....Bruno is a mixed bag, it's going to take a few more albums and some other styles to see what he is. I mean he is a good entertainer but his ongoing lack of original stuff and themes will wear, its cute in a video or two or three but that is a huge pitfall waiting to happen, when you start becoming a parody.

Is she a Bitter Betty or does she have a point?

lastdecember is a she?

Yeah she does have a point. I love Bruno but I'd like to see him apply his old school philosophy and musicality in a "different" way going forward. I say "different" because he's done this already with "Treasure" and "Locked Out of Heaven": making contemporary pop music with a heavy old school sound. "Locked Out of Heaven" was clearly influenced by the stylings of The Police and "Treasure" was an obvious throwback to danceable R&B and post-disco of the early 80's but they still felt like modern day songs and completely original compositions.

I'm not saying the songs off 24K don't follow that formula but many hang a little more on the old school aspect rather than the combo of old and new, if that makes sense.

That said, Bruno is still a rare talent in mainstream music these days. He dances, sings, plays instruments, produces and writes his own songs; he has his peaks (singing, dancing, instruments, producing) and valleys (writing) like any other artist but Bruno is easily the most well-rounded and widely skilled mainstream name we have. I'd like to see him go up from there, carve his own niche and not get pigeon holed into the "old school novelty act" category. However, so long as he continues making the music he does I'll still enjoy him but I wouldn't put him in the same category of starpower or talent as his influences (and frankly, neither would he).

Bruno is what LENNY was back then, for those who do not remember when Lenny K burst on the scene he was compared to everyone, he is Lennon, He is Zeppelin He is Prince He is Hendrix etc...and then his music and rifffs were built on a lot of those artists and he fell into the trap of what is he, just a parody, is he just biting everyone for and what is he himself? I think Lenny proved himself on later albums that he was himself and had other things, Bruno is still in his parody phase.

Exactly. It's not Pet Sounds or Sgt. Peppers, or "Bohemian Rhapsody" or a Moody Blues record. It's a fucking pop/R&B tune that gives a fun nod to a 90s TV show. No one said boo when Janet paid tribute to movies from the 30s with "Alright". No one said a word when MJ did the same thing with movies of the 50s and "Smooth Criminal". Everyone just loved Twisted fucking Sister stole from Animal House.

Folks overthinking a fun song. The whole album doesn't take itself too seriously at all and, if anything, purposely pays respect to 80s and 90s R&B music.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Issue with these "purists" are that they demand "better funkier music", then when Bruno kicks out a album that flawlessly captures the 70s, 80,s 90s and 2010 music, they got a problem. It's a "parody". Get the f out of here with that bs. Guess we should all go listen to rap because there is really NO r&b artist doing anything of the sort...other than Chris Brown and we all know we don't like CB.

Show me someone who is doing the same thing Bruno is doing on his calibur out today and I'll raise them a glass but until then I want to see receipts.

For the last time here is what people DONT get, I could care less about Cardi B and Bruno and Katy Perry etc...its all the pop standard of the day, every day has their superstars etc... And also saying you dont dig something is also not a crime, I thought Master P was one of the worst rap artists of all time and yet that shit was always debuting number one, people dig it and people dont. MY issue with anyone compared is when I hear the same shit "it 's the new......" insert a name there. Be your own artist, tired of hearing its the new michael or the new Prince or the new madonna, and its not the fault of the artists themselves its this weak ass writers for magazines who have nothing else to go on so they latch on to an era and compare everything to it.

Its not a crime no, it's someone constantly talking about somebody they don't like is annoying though. I hate Master P's music too but I spend NO TIME talking bad about him. It is a waste..and if they do at least provide constructive criticism instead of "trash" "copy cat" "garbage"..with no merit.

I cant compare Bruno to anyone and I would hope that people stop doing that shit. Lenny aint no new Hendrix, madonna is not a new Monroe just as much as Prince wasnt no new James Brown or Stevie Wonder...everyone that comes out is a child of their combined influences.

Where did i say I did not like Bruno?? I said he was a great entertainer that does not sound like Hate to me, problem is that everyone views opinions as oh you hate this or that. I said I hated Master P, shit yeah I did because he was a bad image for the game and brought it down because he fed stereotypes but hey he got paid and so does Cardi B and I dont care for her but I understand she is catering to a huge part of society which people say "doesn't exist" well if it did not exist then she wouldnt be all over the place. I sat on this forum years while people dogged the likes of Alicia Keys and yet if she was a male artist hmm I think the forum would except her more. Now I disliked quite a few or her albums especially the last two, but do I hate her no I am pointing out that she slipped off, thats far from hate. Now again like I said I think he is good entertainer, talented and one of the best out there today, mainstream wise that is. Now that does not mean I can dislike something he does, dressing up like PRINCE to me was not cool, and whether it was his call or not I did not think it was cool nor for the Grammies to lower Prince to a cornball tribute like that, but again saying that is not a crime, I thought Lady Gaga's Bowied tribute too was ill advised, as many did too, again she has talent but that move i didnt dig.

I didnt say you exactly say you didnt like Bruno. honestly this album is the only one I own from him, and it was not only on the strength of 24K, but this song Finesse. When I heard a minute sample, I lost my shit...Im like wow this dude is doing BBD, Bobby Brown tributes now? Very well done at that too. For some reason, I like Cardi B personality more than if he had Niki Minaj on for example. there is just something more real abotu her than Niki. She also has to prove herself though because she don't even have an official album out. I like Alecia and respect her, but she bores me..but I respect her.

I agree I didnt like Bruno dressing as Prince, but he did what they wanted. He honestly looked a little uncomfortable. It's not 'him'.
