And I most people attacked that person who posted it. MJ is not a big topic of discussion in the Prince world because the two artist have nothing in common out of both being black.

MJ was a big topic on here for many years... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Yes Michael threads dominated the Music Non Prince forums and even the Prince forum as people would compare the two all the time. In 2009 after his death, the mods imposed a one thread limit for Michael Jackson and this applied only until a few weeks ago, when this rule ahd ended, but now we have like 5 or 6 on the go at once, and not all are complimentary. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I think in any fan bases you have the super obsessives. It's best to filter that out and find a FB group or forum where it's toned down.

At the end of the day too, no matter how different you all think they may be, they seem to attract a lot of the same people. If you asked 100 Prince fans (Not ones who think Purple Rain is the extent of their fandom), but proper fans, what other artists they really liked or listened to and I would say 99 have heard of Michael Jackson and at least 75 would like at least some of Michael's music and a full 50 would be huge MJ fans too. . Pretty much if you like Prince, you are bound to like at least half of these artists too. Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Sly Stone, Parliament-Funkadelic, Frank Zappa, Terence Trent Darby and Sananda Maitreya, Lenny Kravitz, Frank Ocean, D'Angelo, Erykah Badu, Public Enemy, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Jackson 5/Jacksons, Janet Jackson, Madonna, Whitney Houston, George Michael/Wham!, Eurythmics, Tori Amos, Pet Shop boys, Childish Gambino, Maxwell/Tricky/Goldie, Sade, Ready for the Curl, Georgio, Sam Cooke, The Time, Vanity 6, Original 7even, Morris Day, Jesse Johnson, Sheila E, Exotic Storm, SOS Band, Grace Jones and many more. . People who like Prince just gravitate towards R&B, Soul, Funk, Pop, Dance, Blues and Jazz, that is Prince he encourages people to examine their own musical preferences and expand them. On this hypothesis MJ seems basic and generally astep before Prince. Myself like many more was a huge Michael Jackson fan before I got into Prince and remained one afterwards, but many Prince fans forgot about Michael after they took the leap to Prince. What a generalization. Now all MJ fans are basic? Like Prince is Mozart or Beethoven... hilarious MJ fan base is one of the most racially, socially, culturally, nationally diverse groups there is. To the point that many don't even agree on aspects of his life. MJ fans as a whole are into so many other music artist besides Michael. While we don't like others being compared to him we do appreciate other artist greatness. Prince fans on the other hands are music snobs who think they know more than they really do because they are Prince fans. [Edited 12/6/17 7:39am]

MJ fans are mixed, but for many serious music fans - his stuff is lightweight - sorry it is all generic dance pop music with few instrumental flourishes or any deeper meaning in the works. I love Michael but he is not Mozart. . Also you misinterpreted what I said, I merely said many Prince fans start off with MJ and then skip to Prince. I also said which you omitted to read - that most people remain fans of Michael too - but yeah assume that I said all Michael Jackson fans are basic, whatever that means. . Maybe you should go work for Donald Trump as his press secretary, because your altering, subverting and twisting of the facts would go down well there. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

You keep saying for serious music fans like some MJ fans aren't serious music fans as well. I'm not twisting that, that's what you keep saying. I just think it depends on your background and what kind of music you graviatate towards. MJs catalog is what I would describe as a 'taste for everybody'.

That's exactly what happened to me! I was 16 when Bad came out and really liked it at the time, but Prince was also at the height of his popularity then and you just couldn't get around him. So once I had my first Prince album (Lovesexy), Michael Jackson just didn't have anything to offer anymore. PS: thanx for putting Frank Zappa in your list, but you forgot Jimi Hendrix, Santana and Miles Davis...

Wow, I post on this forum about twice a year at the most and yet you still remember me. Going through this thread, I read things like "us Prince fans are much nicer" and "Prince fans are music snobs"... At the end of the day, what does it matter... One was the King of Pop, the other one was His Royal Badness... Take whichever one you like the best...
