Very very late 2016, but in New Zealand we get music several weeks late due to chart embargos. Also the full hit impact of it was not felt until early 2017.

.

Single of the year - Redbone by Childish Gambino

Album of the year - Awaken! My Love by Childish Gambino

Producer of the year - Donald Glover/Ludwig Goransen

Rerelease of the year - Listen without Prejudice set by George Michael

.

Can't think of 20 songz I like from this year.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Favorite album of the year: Perfume Genius - No Shape (Guys this album is magical, the production is totally next-level, like, Beach Boys sort of musicality)

Awaken! my love, impacted in 2017 so I think it counts.
Freedom 90 (back to life) mix is a standout release of the year

a visual movie that documents H.E.R's two albums that impacted this year.
I loved this mini movie.

A L L I E dropped an amazing album.
This song was for me one of my favorite of the year

I never heard of pretty much any of the songs listed here. I don't pay much attention to the radio because I think a lot of music these days sounds the same. It's hard to differentiate one from another. Because of that I wouldn't be able to pick a top 20 but I'll give a top 5.

In no particular order.

1. The Man by The Killers

2. Juice by Chromeo

3. Steady by Boulevards

4. Hot Saucer by Bootsy Collins

5. Wear and Tear by Boulevards

As for my favourite album, I'd go with World Wide Funk by Bootsy Collins although Boulevards' new album is out this Friday so it could be close.

Also, I can't recommend Boulevards highly enough. Really talented guy who I think a lot of people on here would like. He's a cross between Prince, Rick James and Earth Wind and Fire. Seriously, check him out.

Fair point.

Are there any releases on the horizon we need to know about between now and 1/1/18?

Top 20 songs are too much for my taste, cuz it's not easy following the scene and being able to listen all the stuff .. but i can name the one i really liked - it happend that Tori Amos made a new record, and somehow succeeded to make a masterpiece after all this years:

Mine too. Although Charlotte Gainsbourg's Rest came very close.

Seeing Thundercat live back in October also made my top three concerts of 2017.

All the transitions n that R&B interpolation 2 "Oh Lamar, Hail Mary or marijuana, times is hard" dancing jig nuts. Like that 1 2. I'd say his DAMN. for album o the year. Frank Ocean's Blonde was damn good also, as was Jay's 4:44. 3 of very few albums I've listened 2 from this year. Oh yeah, Future's Future is fun 2 listen 2 when I'm in that "every song having the same exact beat n offensive lyrics" mood. "Tiffany's Tiffany's, we goin shoppin @ Tiffany's" lol.

For all time I am with you, you are with me.
