SoulAlive

I'm always scared to listen to 'new' music from old school artists.I wonder,is it gonna have their 'classic sound' or is it gonna sound like the crap you hear on the radio these days? So I was pleasantly surprised when I heard "Reset"......it's funky, with lots of guitar and best of all,no hip-hop elements or an unnecessary guest rapper. It gets a thumbsup from me.

You're right about artist that abandon their classic sound. Lalah Hathaway's new cd does just. No ballads on her new cd which is more like an EP with 9 songs no longer than 3:48. Not that I don't dig a few songs but Lalah would have been the last artist I would expect that from. Yes I dig this new track from OP even with it sounding a little dated.

Identity

It's not even close to the songs done in their commercial heyday. That said, the guitar solo and licks are on the one.

I still feel some kind of way about Lalah's new album. I don't mind that it's short, and I like a couple of songs, but I'm confused about what she was trying to do with this one. And I'm pretty open to artists trying new things, but this one got me scratching my head.

Yeah it's a bit of a head scratcher. It actually does have one ballad on it. I overlooked it.

Might actually be the best song on it but it's not her typical smooth jazzy ballad.
