Clearly so-called "rock" fans are more active voters. I'm voting for Rufus and Sister Rosetta only.

Well it is called Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame and Rolling Stone is primarily a rock magazine. lol So most of the readers are going to be rock fans. How many R&B fans buy or read Rolling Stone or care about a rock hall?

So does anyone have any idea how much pull the fan vote has had in the past? I wouldn't think Rufus & Chaka would get much of the fan vote. But I didnt think NWA and 2Pac would either. I dont know what their fan numbers were. I would think its safe to say your average rock n' roller wouldn't give a rat's behind about hip-hop and neither would hip-hop heads care about the RRHOF. But those artists are still being inducted.

Not nessesarily so. How do you think rock bands like Aerosmith & Anthrax came to collaborate with rappers. Public Enemy toured with Anthrax as well. Bob Dylan did a song with Kurtis Blow. The nu-metal genre is metal & rap mixed together. Run DMC was the first rap act to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone and MTV created the show Yo MTV Raps. That's probably because Run DMC had a rock sound unlike the rappers before them which were primarily funk, disco, & electro based. Same with the Beastie Boys. Both of them are inducted. Rolling Stone magazine has been pro-hip hop, but less so for heavy metal and progressive rock, and they are actual rock groups. If you read Rolling Stone for a long amount of time, you can tell who is more likely to be inducted or not. That's why I'm not surprised acts like Chic don't get in. People don't seem to understand that the rock hall was started by the founders of Rolling Stone and it tends to go towards their taste. It's like if Cynthia Horner started a museum based on who was in Right On! magazine. New Edition & Jackson 5 are more likely to be inducted than The Beatles & Bob Dylan.

Once the boomer generation founders start retiring or passing away, then there's going to be more post 1990s and 2000 acts inducted. They're already going in that direction with Green Day, Nirvana, & Tupac. Rufus is a boomer era group, so unless they are inducted while the boomers are still in charge, I don't see it happening.

Excuse my French, but most people think Rock & Roll is white boys playing loud guitar.
Not goin back to the origins of Rock & Roll of the early 50s

Rock music is totally different from Rock & Roll. Rock & Roll is Hank Ballard and the Midnighters. Rock is the Eagles.

What rock meant in the 1950s is irrelevant today. Like the swastika existed long before the Nazis used it, and it meant something else. But what does the average person think when they see one now? There's many rock songs that say "rock n roll" in them, a famous example is the one by KISS. They don't just say "rock". Technically, that early music you're talking about was called race music, then rhythm & blues. It wasn't called rock n roll until Bill Haley, Little Richard, & Elvis Presley came along.

Don't act like you don't know Rock and Roll and rock ain't quite the same thing. And the vote is publicized beyond Rolling Stone. You know both of those things, MD.

Anyway, that wasn't my point, so I'll elaborate.

They care after the fact. Every year, there are complaints about black artists not getting in. You see it on black media sites and social media. But they don't vote beforehand.

It'll happen again this year, that train is never late.

Then let's just take all of the R&B artists out the rock hall. Is that your point?

If they don't care before, then they shouldn't care afterward. That's what I just said. R&B fans in general don't read Rolling Stone. So why would they vote in something they don't pay attention to. Is the vote publicized beforehand on BET, TV One, Vibe, Tom Joyner Morning Show, or Ebony Magazine where the R&B audience is more likely to see or hear about it? If not, then they shouldn't publicize about who wins or not. Simple as that. If it is publicized by Rolling Stone in places the R&B audience are less likely to see, then they won't know about it even if they wanted to vote. Rolling Stone has a bigger audience than Ebony and Essence anyway.

the only other Guaranteed Inductee is LL Cool J...Everybody wants to celebrate him & his Career...so he's a Lock...

I wouldn't say that. He'll prob get in with a fantastic "honoree" like Pete or Iggy, or (hopefully not) Neil Young.

No its not popularity because Jovi had alot of votes last time they were up and they were not voted in by this so called "committee" they have for the Hall, which is why Jon took shots at the whole process.

There is a definate fallacy to not putting Janet Jackson in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

You're gonna induct both 2pac AND LL Cool J (and other rappers) but give all the credit to Madonna for the pop landscape for the last two decades?

It's interesting because people say she just followed Michael Jackson and Madonna. So then why the fuck are there more than two rappers in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (with more to come)?

You must not follow what is popular. Hip hop pretty much replaced rock n roll in popularity on the charts years ago in the USA. Hip hop is in movie trailers, video games, in rock, in country music as "hick hop". There's even some symphony orchestras and jazz bands using rap elements. Hip hop has influenced fashion and also art with graffiti. Rap has spread to other countries all over the world. I've heard Swedish rappers. People talking about Janet, there's not much heavy metal, prog rock, punk rock, southern rock, psychedelic rock, stoner rock, etc in the hall either and those acts are actually rock music.

Well KISS got on the ballot because of fans and Eddie Trunk basically, so why cant the fans get Janet on the ballot?? And I know everyone thinks RadioHead is a shoe in, but where is their fan base on these votes??

Janet is getting a lot of press here recently, maybe she'll get on the ballot next time. She should've already been on the ballot.

As much as I like Bon Jovi, it wouldn't hurt my feelings if they didn't get in. Looks like Bon Jovi has the fan vote.

Looks like the fans no showed for not only RadioHead, but J Geils too.

I would like to see Rufus & Chaka get in though.
