The Best Of Erykah Badu

I really see myself in Erykah Badu's music, I relate to her words so much. Songs like "Kiss Me On My Neck", "Bag Lady", "Booty" and "Didn't cha know" are reflections of my life thats why I respect what she does along with Lauryn(who does the same thang in her music), both sistas are schooling us with their stuff.

My FAVE jams from her(in no special order):

On&on
Another Lifetime
The Other Side Of The Game(Live)
Call Tyrone
4 Leaf Clover
Didn't Cha Know
Orange Moon
Green Eyes
Kiss Me On My Neck
Bag Lady
A.D. 2000
Love Of My Life

I saw her live in 2001 and she wrecked it. The special thing about her is that ALL of her material is strong.

If u get good seats and she does the same thang she will be one inch from you. She literaly came out to us in the audience to sing the ending of Bag Lady.

Erykah connects with her audience and she has no problem with going out into the audience.

She has decent Songs but Live is the only avenue I can see Her in.She takes herself to Seriously IMHO overall&She always has to keep dropping a Hit so She don't fall off.dug the first Album&"Tyronne"&Her Live thing a few years back but overall She is starting to put me to sleep.

Essence

For those of you mad she didn't drop a live album with her second LP (as with the first) there is a great quality 2CD bootleg from Central Park, NYC, Summerstage, Rumsey Playfield 6/8/01 which has a set by Talib Kweli included also.

I just don't get her at all. I liked "On and On" and "Bag Lady" was brilliant. "Tyrone" was a good 'story song',and I can see where people in that situation really took to the song. I agree with Mistermaxxx, she does take herself way to seriously. I used to vomit at the sight or sound of her, but she doesn't bug me as much anymore, probably because she bores me as well. I know some people who love her, but I 'll settle for a two song compilation. And yes I have heard her albums, unfortunately. shake But I hope you enjoy her GH cd when it comes out!! wink

gigglin'...actually it proves you don't get her because she doesn't take her self too seriously at ALL. If you missed her this time on tour, too bad because she definitely demonstrates that wearing nothing but jeans and a t-shirt...and removing an fro wig to show nothing but tiny plats on her nappy ass head.

and mistermaxx this comes from you...the MJ fan...lawd...

Michael Jackson at 12 years Old had More Soul in Him than Badu will ever Have or know.My Homeboy peeped Her out&gave me the 411&wasn't feeling Her neither. She is alright but not that Good IMHO.She always has to drop just a catchy Song so She isn't forgotten.Marlena Shaw&Millie Jackson did that whole routine that Badu does&never put me to sleep

Erykah reminds me of Macy Gray, its neva about the the material or the voice or even the look,,its about the [LYRICS!] trust me. I hope you sit down and just listen 2 what she have to say, it will SHOCK you how deep can she be. Very good poet with an uplifting energy.

I semi agree..because her lyrics are on her poetess tip as is Jill Scotss..but her presentation and voice are added cream imo nod

You already know my feelings about Jilly from Philly lol wink a talented sistah indeed but her efforts neva move me like Erykah does(esp when it comes down 2 LYRICS).

Jill is very deep when it comes 2 write poems about love and self-pride but I don't think she could write something like "Cleva" or "Kiss Me On My Neck". Besides, very unlike Jill, what I love about Erykah is she has the edgy/dark thing going on with her music,,,thats right there is what attracts me the MOST!

Chica Jill aint no joke though..she was on Def poetry and she tore it up humourously adn introspectively with her spoken word. She was a spoken word artist before she began recording..as she said on Jill Scott Experience "I was born a poet, Imma die a poet" etc. Many of her songs are written form the spoken word-poem point of view. I can see if you like Erykas writings better but Jill is equally if not more on a higher level of a poet than Eryka imo..I see Eryka more hip hop-rap based in her writings compared to Jilly from Philly.

I think you said it the right way! I don't have the nerve 2 underestemate Jilly's stuff! I too checked her doing the Def poetry and have both of her LPs but you gon have to give me some time to dig her stuff deeper. Give me another LP and give me a DIFFERENT style. I wasn't into Badu when she 1st came out but I loved her when I noticed how she flipped her style!

LOL As 4 Erykah's writing?? The other reason why I love her is becoz the fact that her writing materials are Hip/Hop-Rap oriented/based(like u said!). She used to be called MC Apple, she used 2 be a rapper b4 entering the music biz too,,,so there u go wink

How many threads are you going to keep pushing that dudes name in? He doesn't even sound good live. I was watching and old music awards show, he did the song "when a woman's fed up" and he sounded like crap. You should be banned for swinging on the nuts of a studio rat like R. And wish you would play yourself on this web site and tell me he is a great live artist. Stop swing on R's nuts, he has enough preteen doing that already. YEAH I SAID IT!!!

please don't put words in my mouth.last Album I dug all the way through from MJ was 1991's "Dangerous"&Last Song that He made that knocked me out was "Stranger in Moscow" back in 95.so I'm hardly in the He can do no Wrong Group.Last Tour I dug all the way through was the "Bad" Tour.the difference between you&Myself is that I only talk about His Music&related Content.you&Some of these Wanna-Be Shrinks in here spend way to much timing going over Him&His Business as a Person.I don't waste my time with Him Beyond His Music.if you have read my Posts carefully you'd notice I've given Him a Bad time with doing alot of Grand-standing with certain Musical choices He has done.Later
