I love that girl. No matter what anyone says she was absolutely gorgeous back in the day. The most beautiful eyes I have ever seen.

It is (well, almost) just you

Never understood so much love for Madonna among prince fans! Maybe that it because I'm much more focused on his musicianship than on his style...

Has Madonna ever written any grounbreaking song, something that future generations will be interested in ? Has she ever written anything actually ?

There are about 500 artists of the last 40 years I would rate above Madonna, so why this madness for her ? I mean no hate here, just complete indifference.

She's beautiful, sexy, challenging, trend-setting (I do not mean musically of course), very clever (probably much more than our little man!), but do these qualities make her an outstanding artist ???

Madonna is an amazing artist. She is more talented than you realize.Yes,she has written most of her own songs. And I would argue that many of those songs are groundbreaking.Madonna is one of the most successful, most influential and most *important* artists of the last 20 years. She has not only created an impressive catalog of hit albums, but she has broken down many barriers, broken many rules and is still going strong, twenty years after her first album came out. This woman is incredible!

"Madonna is an amazing artist. This woman is incredible!"

??? DavidEye, would you quote any "groundbreaking" song she has written ? (I mean something that has influenced any other musician, even considering that she's not one herself) Which young talented musician has been heavily influenced by her ? Which modern music style owes something to her ? What "rules" has she broken down MUSICALLY SPEAKING ???

Answer is none to all questions, end of the game. Still other than from a musical standpoint, I would agree that "this woman is incredible"

considering that you didn't even know that she writes her own songs, i don't think you're really qualified to speak on what she has and hasn't done...

I was gonna write a long reply, but then I thought "why bother"? Madonna's success and longevity speaks for itself. She surely doesn't need ME to defend her.

NO answer to any of my yet simple questions... THAT speaks for itself

And what does longevity mean ? Does longevity make Cher a greater artist than Prince for instance ???

maybe because your questions are the same cliches that've been asked for the last 20 years. and the same old crap that's been discussed here and elsewhere a million times. come up with some more creative questions, and you might get a response.

the fact that they're still being asked 20 years later... THAT speaks for itself. that people are even talking about an artist of the 80's 20 years later, that's the answer to your question.

OK then, could I just get a sample of those marvelous and obvious answers to these questions ? (just quote me one of those groundbreaking songs she has written, if it is not too much to ask for)

And do 40 years of career make Cher a great artist ? Do 5-10 years of career make Sly Stone a second-rate one ?

PS: by the way I like Madonna, it is just about her never being in the same league as Prince, Jimi, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Zappa, The Beatles, let alone my favorite jazz artists, and just to quote some of the most obvious ones...

Madonna will be remembered hundreds of years from now- THAT speaks for itself.

As for groundbreaking songs/albums:

The first Madonna album was pretty influential
Live to Tell
Papa Don't Preach
Like a Prayer
Oh Father
Vogue
Justify My Love
Erotica
Bedtime Story (thanks to Bjork)
Frozen
MER Girl
Substitute for Love
Paradise (Not for Me)

And I'm including only the more obvious ones. She deserves to be the legend she is.

Like I said, there's no point in ME trying to defend her.I really don't have to.Her amazing career, her continuing success and her longevity all speaks for itself. Her place in pop music history is secured.

who put her in that league? not i. and not anyone on this thread. in fact, this thread was about whether or not people wanted to make sweet love to her. and you went off on some tangential rant about how she's not influential and not a great songwriter, etc.

get ahold of yourself. this isn't what this thread is about, and nobody put Madonna in the league of those people as a musician.

she is, however, incredibly influential. but if i listed the influence she's had, you'd belittle it, so what's the point?
