Those are good groups too.
Top 10 rappers overall, skill, music, influence etc (no particular order) Tupac Nas Rakim Mos Def DMX Krs One Biggie LL Cool J Guru Wu Tang Clan- great group hard to list individualy (influential and talented as a whole) NWA- very influential as well as a group There are more rappers I like but you said list 10 but these are mostly my favs and amongst the top MC's in my personal opinion.
Top 10 Overatted rappers Jay Z Kanye West--He is a more talented producer than he is rapper and he is a better overall artist and visionary than Jay Z. However, he has a lot of filler in his catalog and there are better skillful rappers. There is no way he deserves 20 something grammys. Macklemore Jay Z Drake Chance the Rapper Lil Wayne Jay Z Eminem-- I do like his older material though and I think he is a more talented lyrist/story teller than Jay Z.

The catalogue has never been up for sale. Someone needs to call out LM and the only other person who has bothered is Dave Hampton. I hope this makes more people speak up.

There were talks of him selling it to Jay Z. They had meetings and were talking about it last year. I'm glad Londell didn't do it. I mean LETS BE REAL, would you want Prince catalog in Jay Z hands????
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
According to Londell's own tweets the masters were never up for sale. The masters would only be up for sale if the family wanted to sale them which would be ridcuolus since taxes would eat up a chuck of the revenue from the sale and they would lose out on utilzing it as an assest.
Jay-Z did put in an offer for Tidal to be the admin for the catalgoe for 40 million. Which is more than UMG offered however, I do not think Tidal has any experience in administration or licensing of music rights and probaly was never being seriously considered.
You need to ask yourself how come the 3 sibs and LM are not trying to handle the administration of the rights in house and reissue the non-wb material with NPG LLC.
A business structure was already in place. How hard is is to find lawyers and accounts to run an exisiting business. Why is he so hellbent on destroying contracts that already exsits? These actions are causing nothing to get done with the music at all. I would bet even the cataloging is at a stand still. You realize if there was no deal with Tidal a large chunk of vault material would be going unheard and would not be generating any revenue.
Do you realize that without the WB deal there would be no PR remaster which is bringing in money right now?

Listening to unheard Prince music is not what is important right now, what is important is that Prince catalog is in the right hands of a entity or organization that can be trusted and will preserve his legacy, that is what is important. I am not saying Londell is perfect BUT I rather him be in charge of Prince catalog THAN JAY Z that was just my only point. I am glad he did not accept Jay Z's offer. He may not be perfect but he had good enough sense to not do that.

You are right listening to unheard music is not important but selling it is. Londell is not in charge of anything. Comerica bank and Troy Carter are in charge. No one on the earth is perfect but who cannot spot an opportunitist.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I hear you sis, I agree. I'm just glad its not in Jay Z's hands. Im praying they get that mess sorted out. Im just confused on why you think Jay Z is not an opportunist either.

Because he was in business with Prince and everyone is in business to make money. Prince was in business to make money this is the reason he wanted his music on Tidal to get a higher royalty rate. No way on God's green earth he sent files to Tidal without getting money. No way was Jay Z/Tidal giving Prince money for no content.
What Londell is stating in those court docs is ridculous when we all know Prince wanted to work with Jay-Z. If Prince had equity in Tidal which Tidal is saying they have a signed equity agreement do you think Prince was given Equity for free?
This all smacks of LM not doing his due dilegence because he was in a hurry to put in new deals so he could get a check. What I know is that Jay Z does not have some special power to beat copyright laws and that material is still up on Tidal because some signed agreement exsist.
You saw how quickly the Delieverance crap got removed. LM did not do his due dillegence on the Tidal deal before moving forward with other deals. You see a pattern of this sort of thing with him. Nothing appears to be done above board.
LM job as an attorney for the estate is to work in good faith to do his best for the estate not to put lining his pockets first. I wish the court and Breamer had made him bill by the hour and kept an eye on what he was doing at this point the court has not even discharged him of responsibilty for the mess that he has caused and he now has an attorney. What does this tell you?
Why did Bremer not work with Rhonda Trotter who drafted the agreement in the first place? I am not an attorney and even I can figure out that if the contract was all hellafied crazy go back to the attorney that drafted it. Mrs. Trotter bill $800.00 an hour she is not a moron I am sure she knows what the intent of the contract was.
She has been brough in by Comerica bank who seem to know what they are doing. [Edited 7/5/17 14:23pm] [Edited 7/5/17 14:24pm]

05 July 2017 JAY-Z's 13th studio album, 4:44, has earned praise from fans and critics, and it's now hit a major sales milestone in less than a week. The rapper's latest collection has been certified platinum for sales of one million album equivalent units.

^ This is the biggest crock of bull shit I have EVER heard. STREAMS does not count as UNITS SOLD. That album did not go platinum. Those white elites will do ANYTHING to prop up this tap dancing coon.
Prince got on TIDAL not necessarily because he trusted Jay Z but because Jay Z fed him bull shit about the model of TIDAL. He felt he would profit more being on TIDAL but it actually hurts him removing all his music from other streaming services. I really wish Prince never got on that crap which was all a PR stunt and farse to begin with. Like I said I don't think L is perfect but you are being extremely biased and neglecting some questionable things Jay Z and TIDAL have done since Prince passing, like when they placed all those unauthorized songs a day after Prince died without his permission (the Prince Estate sued TIDAL as a result of this) and then you have Jay Z bragging about owning Prince catalog ( when that is a lie). They haven't been the moral honor of intergrity themselves either.
I don't honestly believe Prince was getting properly paid for his content. Prince from 2016 was very different from the 90's Prince. I think a lot of exchanges and agreements were via conversations as Jay Z himself admitted. You keep forgeting that many artists have sued TIDAL for not paying them. You keep saying a contract exists but where is this contract? If a contract existed Tidal and the Estate would not be in court fighting. I haven't been following it as of late did Jay and TIDAL ever prove these written or oral agreements on tape or paper??????? If they didn't then all of this is just hot air. Like I said, I hope the mess with his Estate and catalog gets sorted but TIDAL/Jay Z is NOT the answer.

[Edited 7/5/17 16:01pm] How is getting 4 payments if 750k hurt someone? Do you realize how little artist make from streaming? Prince's music was only off of other sites for a year or so the world did not come to an end. Prince even put Hit and Run on I-Tunes so he was not completely gone. Prince many times in the media what he was trying to do and in the end he got his masters back so he could do as he pleased with his property. Prince was not suing Tidal so what other artist are doing is irrelevant to this case and if you think this case has a court date because their was no signed documents or proof of payment you are mistaken. Tidal is the one that is suing the estate they say they have a signed equity agreement and suspect that Prince equity and cash in exchange for content. All you need to show is an exchange via a contract vehicle took place and that it has been breached to get as far as a court date. Please explain how Tidal got a court date if they have nothing? Please explain why the music is still up on Tidal if copyright infringement is taking place? I will be waiting for an answer? Please stop implying that Jay-Z is trying to control Prince's music as the result of the trial the music will stay on Tidal until contract end date approaches and the court will decide if there was exclusivity. The only one putting out this nonsense about Jay-Z controlling Prince's is the idiot tabloids. There is nothing in the courts docs pertaining to masters or publishing. [Edited 7/6/17 7:59am]

This past Friday, JAY-Z released his shockingly personal and intimate new album 4:44. It’s a great album, but people tended to have one big complaint about the thing: They couldn’t figure out how to hear it. At first, the album was only available to stream if you were a Sprint customer or if you’d become a Tidal subscriber before midnight on Friday night. Eventually, JAY opened it up to all Tidal subscribers. Still, that only covers a tiny subset of the population. And the album isn’t available for purchase anywhere; right now, it’s streaming-only. But this morning, the Recording Industry Association of America has certified 4:44 platinum.
According to a press release from the RIAA, 4:44 is now platinum, “recognizing 1 million albums sold and/or streamed in the United States.” That makes it the 13th JAY-Z solo studio album to be certified platinum or higher. That’s more than any other rapper in history. But so, um, how? Is the RIAA recognizing illegal downloads now? Or is it just contorting all possible logic so that it can give JAY-Z whatever he wants?
I do like how, in that picture, JAY looks as skeptical as the rest of us.
//UPDATE: Mystery solved! Our friends at Billboard have the scoop. Here’s the gist:
This is pretty much exactly what Jay negotiated with Samsung in order to push Rihanna’s ANTI to platinum status. What a clusterfuck that was! We wrote about that whole thing at considerable length a while back, and you can read all the gory details if you’re so inclined. Same story, different day. Also you can check out Billboard’s full report on the 4:44 situation here.

Hunny you are living in la la land. There are NO receipts. NO CASE NO RECEIPTS, PERIOD.
TIDAL has not proven they have had any contracts. They can talk about what exists but if they cannot PROVE it with a receipt, its just HOT air, period. The Prince Estate DID sue TIDAL after Prince died. They sued because Jay Z tried to take advantage of Prince death by placing music all on TIDAL that he was not authorize to do. TIDAL sued them with claims that they have yet to prove. You keep defending this man when he doesn't even give a crap about Prince or his legacy and he has SHOWN that on MORE than one occasion. That clown put all of Prince music on TIDAL (without Estate permission) a DAY after Prince died, his body wasn't even cold yet but you seat here and blindly defend him like he is so innocent and he care so much about Prince. No, he was trying to PROFIT OFF of Prince and what makes it so fuqed up is the fact that he tried to take advantage of Prince death in order to profit for himself. I don't understand how you can defend this man Laura. Jay Z has done a lot of shady crap and he cannot be trusted . I will always call it out.

I don't know this world and at this point in life I'm not going to get all deep in research to find out what is what, and what people mean by stray sayings. But looking at all this, an modern-old saying comes to mind "hate the game, not the player", sounds like the game changed significantly many, many years ago. I'm coming to the conclusion that some players are better at making their own doorways or bypasses than others. I can't be mad at them for it.

. WTF??!! How does an album go "Platinum" in just one week??!! . All his hype and cryptic lyrics? Is that why??

. I don't read the tabloids about JayZ, but was all of that true (his cheating) on Beyonce? You have to wonder if it was all one big publicity stunt because we all know that "Lemonade" was over-hyped and controversial, thus high record sales. Jay Z and Beyonce know how to make money; they are highly-skilled in that area and are masters of deception. Beyonce was singing all about being strong and standing up to your man, yadda, yadda........all a bunch of blah-blah-blah nonsense......and the sheeple bought into it, hook line and sinker!!

Jay Z and Beyonce are jokes. They are JUST like the Kardashians, they will do anything for attention. I think all the cheating did happen (Jay Z admitted to it, all of it can't be lies). They are desperate for attention and decided to use that as a marketing draw....WHO DOES THAT? Why use your spousal infidelity for PR? Just shameful and classless. Jay Z exposed that Beyonce's brand is all a lie. How can you call yourself a feminist and sing about woman empowerment but you willing stay with a cheater and then continue to have more children with him? They are both jokes. Its shameful how they are using their marital issues for PR. Im glad a lot of people called him and Beyonce out for this album. I am so sick and tired of these overrated buffoms. They are tacky as hell. He has 3 kids why gloat about threesomes and giving gifts to your mistresses? Who does that? [Edited 7/6/17 14:09pm]

. And, Prince supported these frauds? . Does not sound like something Prince would be involved in, imo. Unless they had him under some type of hypnosis or something! .
