Well deserved.

However, the Jackson 5 should have gotten one before them. They modeled off J5.

New Kids on the Block Reveal 'Dream' New Edition Tour
6/6/2017 by Katie Atkinson, Keith Caulfield - Billboard

Welcome to the new episode of the Billboard.com Pop Shop Podcast, Billboard's weekly audio breakdown of the Billboard charts, hottest music news and year's biggest musical events. Casual pop fans and chart junkies can hear Billboard co-director of charts Keith Caulfield and Billboard.com senior editor Katie Atkinson every Tuesday on the Pop Shop Podcast, which can be streamed or downloaded in iTunes (click here to listen to t...he show on Billboard.com).

Our guests on this week's show are New Kids on the Block! We chatted with four-fifths of the veteran boy band (you were missed, Donnie!) as they kicked off their Total Package Tour with Boyz II Men and Paula Abdul. We talked all about their latest all-star lineup, the best and worst parts of being on the road, and what it's like to play new songs from their Thankful EP on the tour.

We also asked the guys who is still on their tourmate wish list, after hitting the road with everyone from TLC to the Backstreet Boys. "I think there's one big one left that we've always thought it would be a dream come true if it worked out," Joey McIntyre said. "I guess it's no secret that growing up, being from Boston, and New Edition being from Boston, and looking up to those guys. But again, you're looking at six other guys, five or six other guys, and it's tough. It's really gotta be in the stars. So who knows if that's a possibility? But ... we're just so lucky to have Boyz II Men again, and Paula Abdul -- it's really kind of like the perfect night. So we'll enjoy this one, and it's gonna be tough to figure out that [next] perfect act, but we've been lucky over the years to find the right fit."

Alright, I'm definitely feeling this year's Lifetime Achievement recipients...Normally they choose a Mainstream R&B Artist/Group...I'm very surprised they picked New Edition...New Edition is my childhood..

They did when they advertised that horrible concert they did after MJ passed. confused

No but seriously I don't know since MJ has passed away if they ever will and do they consider the Rock and Roll induction as a part of that.

But I'm glad New Edition is doing great. I hope this help them heal because tomorrow not promised and they are brothers no matter what. I'm just so happy that Rickey isn't doing drugs and glad the guys never threw each other private life under the bus for money or fame.

The Jackson 5 have never won the BET Lifetime Achievement Award. They also are already inducted in the RHOF but it still would have been nice IMO if Bet gave them a Lifetime achievement award as the Jackson 5. New Edition is the youngest act to receive the award I believe (and they do rightfully deserve it). However, they could have given it to J5 first and before other bubble gum boy bands that proceeded after them since J5 is the blue print. Yea I am happy for New Edition as well and the resurgence of their commercial success.

So did James Brown, Smokey, Diana Ross, etc razz

Im quite sure they will be okay too.

That doesn't change the fact that they could have been awarded the award as well.

I think that their receiving the award ties into the fact that their biopic miniseries was also produced by BET as well. BET is running out of the mainstream old timers (1970's-1990's) they used to give airplay too, so they have to strike while the getting is good.

For what they meant to a struggling BET back in the 1980's, this award totally makes sense in that context. Their videos were not in heavy rotation on the other music channels, so BET wants to recognize the artists that made them who they are.

The BET website has an artist web that outlines how other artists influenced New Edition:

It's gonna be interesting to see what Leslie Jones brings to the table as Host...She's Loud & Animated but that does not always translate into Comedy-Gold..

I would have gone with Sheryl Underwood since she is at EVERY single Taping of BET Gospel & BET Awards..Hmmmm, then again, sometimes Sheryl acts like she's scared of something...She's Great & Funny on The Talk but sometimes I wonder if she'd rather walk away from the stand-up life..She's a hard-read...

Wanda Sykes would have been another one on my list....

all the same, I'm looking forward to Leslie's first major Hosting gig..

Leslie Jones Says She’s 'Really Looking Forward' to New Edition Tribute at the 2017 BET Awards
by Latifah Muhammad - June 21, 2017 - ET Online

Leslie Jones wants to spread a little "joy" at the 2017 BET Awards!

The 49-year-old comedian will be hosting this year's show, and while she's "excited but nervous" to take on the gig, the Saturday Night Live star dished to ET about preparing for the big ceremony, and which performance that she’s anticipating the most.

Jones revealed that she's been testing out her jokes with other live audiences to get ready for the awards show, which airs live on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on BET.

"I've been going to a lot of clubs to get the jokes ready," she revealed during a conference call with the press on Wednesday. "A lot of research, mind preparation, just a lot of getting ready."

Aside from hosting the show, Jones is involved in writing the script for the awards show, and there’s one special performance that she can’t wait to watch.

"We are giving a tribute to New Edition, which I'm really looking forward to," she shared, although she couldn't share which artists will be honoring the '80s R&B group.

As for her wardrobe, Jones revealed that she'll be wearing at least one Christian Siriano creation, but she was less forthcoming about the possibility of bringing a date to the show.

"That's confidential," she said with a laugh.

She may be shy to speak about her personal life, but Jones didn't mind gushing over her comedic idol, Whoopi Goldberg. The View co-host has been fully supportive of Jones' career.

"I talked to her a couple of times," Jones shared of speaking with Goldberg, a four-time Oscars host, about the awards show. "She supports me in anything that I do."

Besides the BET Awards and SNL, Jones also has another project in the works: a stand-up comedy special that she hopes to release towards the end of the year.

"I'm always working on that anytime I go up [on stage]," Jones added. "I'm always writing material and putting it away and working on things."
