You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

They did when they advertised that horrible concert they did after MJ passed. confused

No but seriously I don't know since MJ has passed away if they ever will and do they consider the Rock and Roll induction as a part of that.

But I'm glad New Edition is doing great. I hope this help them heal because tomorrow not promised and they are brothers no matter what. I'm just so happy that Rickey isn't doing drugs and glad the guys never threw each other private life under the bus for money or fame.

The Jackson 5 have never won the BET Lifetime Achievement Award. They also are already inducted in the RHOF but it still would have been nice IMO if Bet gave them a Lifetime achievement award as the Jackson 5. New Edition is the youngest act to receive the award I believe (and they do rightfully deserve it). However, they could have given it to J5 first and before other bubble gum boy bands that proceeded after them since J5 is the blue print. Yea I am happy for New Edition as well and the resurgence of their commercial success.

whitney houston was younger than them when she was honored, they are not that young a couple of them turned 50 this year.

Ralph's radio show is on right now and he's talking about the award show.

Ralph said that Donnie Walhberg texted him after the show to gratulate him and named a lot of acts that existed because of NE. He also mentioned Bobby's red robe/coat and said that the same actors are supposed to be doing Bobby's BET movie.

How The BET Awards Boosted The Signal For Pandora's 'New Edition' Channel
Adrienne Gibbs | June 28, 2017 | Forbes
https://blogs-images.forbes.com/adriennegibbs/files/2017/06/800909116-1200x709.jpg?width=960
There's something about music award shows that often leads consumers to do more Google searches, more product purchases and, apparently, create more Pandora stations when it comes to the artists or songs who are represented. The BET Awards may not have seen the television ratings they had in 2016, but the streaming aftermath uptick (and social media dominance) is real. Pandora is reporting that several groups highlighted on the awards show have experienced up to a 269% increase in streaming.

Who were those groups?

New Edition, which received the Lifetime Achievement Award from BET, topped the list with the 269% increase in streaming requests. Roman GianArthur, who performed a spunky rendition of "Johnny B Goode" to celebrate the memory of Chuck Berry, followed with 250%. Xscape, another 90s girl-group phenom, had a 200% increase in streaming. Solange was fourth with 143% and Remy Ma rounded out that top seven with a 101% increase in streaming.

Pandora also reports that hip-hop is one of its most popular genres, so the fact that R&B, and old-school R&B at that, saw an uptick in spins is directly attributable to the engagement reaction of the BET Awards.

For those who like lists, look at it this way.

1. New Edition: 269%
2. Roman GianArthur: 250%
3. Xscape: 200%
4. Solange: 143%
5. El Debarge: 136%
6. Cardi B: 123%
7. Remy Ma: 101%

What I find most interesting about this is the clear connection between the BET Awards presentation of El DeBarge singing "Careless Whisper" and the 136% increase in DeBarge streaming requests. As a person who owns all of DeBarge's CDs, I can certainly understand that the vast number of people of a certain age who already tossed those old CDs might be having a bit of a DeBarge fantasy right now and be hankering to hear upbeat songs such as "Who's Johnny" or "The Rhythm of the Night."
https://blogs-images.forbes.com/adriennegibbs/files/2017/06/800893996-1200x800.jpg?width=960
Every couple of years, DeBarge and the family are boosted back into the spotlight and fans have a good time reminiscing and listening to those 80s hits.

Meanwhile, New Edition has managed to stay consistently relevant for decades, and the uptick in streaming is no shocker. New Edition is one of those groups (which by extension includes the solo projects of Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill, BBD and Ralph Tresvant) that very consistently stays top of mind. Most recently, the BET biopic of the group socially trended all the days it aired and renewed a frenzy for the godfathers of the original boy band concept. Of the 3.2 million Pandora listeners who created a specific New Edition station on the streaming platform, the song "Love Again" had the highest increase in spins.

Hip-hop may be king right now, but R&B nostalgia is always a solid second.

Does anyone have the NE segment from this show? Tried going directly to BET but work restrictions wouldn't allow it.

New Edition Receives Lifetime Achievement Award At BET Awards

posted by Isha Thorpe - 1 week ago

It's about time that New Edition got the respect that it deserves. The R&B group was honored with the Lifetime Achievement award at the 2017 BET Awards.

For over thirty years, New Edition has been releasing new music and putting on great shows that only made us fall even more in love with its members. If you really think about it, New Edition paved the way for many of today's R&B groups -- both male and female. So, it was only right that BET gave the group its due props.

We also can't say that this is too much of a surprise. Back in January, BET's ratings went through the roof when their three-part movie premiered on the network. People will always love them! The group's tribute at the show started with a video that features several celebrities speaking about how much they loved them as kids.

From Tank, Lala, Tyrese, Erykah Badu, and more; everyone blushed about the group that inspired them. Pop group New Kids On The Block even said that there would be no them, Backstreet Boys, NSYNC or other guy groups without NE.

Then, the cast members of "The New Edition" movie performed some of the group's smash hits. From Bryshere Y. Gray as Mike Bivins, Elijah Kelley as Ricky Bell, Luke James as Johnny Gill, Woody McClain as Bobby Brown, Keith Powers as Ronnie DeVoe, Algee Smith as Ralph Tresvant; everyone took to the stage to honor all of the iconic group's singers.

During their acceptance speech, Ronnie started: “First of all, we like to thank our lord and savior Jesus Christ right now. Y’all can’t understand 30-plus years in the music industry that will chew you up and spit you out. All six of us standing on this stage right now. It’s an amazing thing.” The others soon took turns thanking family members, fans and more.

Then, the group began performing some of their songs, themselves. NE sang "Telephone Man," "Can't Stand The Rain," and "If This Isn't Love." They also brought out their movie's cast members that played them for the grand finale of their set.

Congrats on receiving the Lifetime Achievement award, New Edition. This is much deserved!
