The album (When The Lights Go Out) had it been released in the U.S. by just about anyone else almost certainly would have done well given that it was produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. But when it was released back in 1988, Pia was pretty much the punchline to a joke so that might have been a factor in not releasing it in the U.S. Too bad it wasn't, Still Remembered is a pretty strong track. I would have chosen either that or I Don't Wanna Love as the lead single instead of Dance Out Of My Head, which peaked at #65 in the UK.

It was re-released in 2014 as a two disc set. That's when I bought it. The second disc has remixes.

You can get it on Amazon or Funky Town Grooves website on sale.

For some odd reason that album is not available to buy on Itunes and not avail to listen on Tidal. Something is off with that because it is a great album. I agree with you. I also loved "Our Song" on that album, very emotional. Kind of sounds like "Someday Is Tonight" by Janet but not a Jimmy and Terry track.

She was really young and married to a billionaire 30 years older than her, Meshulum Riklis, and she wanted to be a performer so he tried to buy her way into movies, music, etc. She'd show up everywhere like she was a celebrity, but people laughed at her and comedians made jokes about her in her prescence. I remember feeling sorry for her cuz they'd be so rude to her and it probably was also because they resented her being so rich/not so talented and taking up space in Hollywood they felt she didn't deserve.

She was sorta the original Kim Kardshian, famous for trying to be famous. But the crazy thing is, I think she truly just wanted to perform for self-fulfillment. She didn't need the money so that wasn't a reason. She still performs in Las Vegas I think.

She was cute and seemed like a nice gal, but VERY modestly talented, pleasant but weak singing voice, mediocre acting skills, cute but too short to model. Sad part is today she'd probably be huge cuz alot of performers suck so bad that she would be better by comparison.

Well, she picked the right people to get some type of attention because honestly if Kim kardashian made a whole album with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis with her no talented ass, I probably would still buy it for collectors reasons LOL. She could have had her own reality show back then if she thought about it lol.

Pre youtube and discogs, I remember finding this on vinyl dirt cheap. I only like "Dance outta my head" and "It's always the same", but yeah, I don't care who it is, if I like it, I like it LOL.

Pia's next album was produced by Narada Michael Walden. She hired the best people but she could not buy a hit. Her voice is better suited for the big band stuff she does. Frank Sinatra liked her. She used to open for him. I bought this CD about 15 years ago when I was in my Jam & Lewis collecting phase. "Dance Out Of My Head", "Still Remembered" and "I Really Like You (Not Him)" are standouts. It's been awhile since I listened to it but I recall Lisa Keith's voice (and the other "backing" vocalists) being far more prominent than Pia's. All the yang people talk about Janet's voice can truly be applied to Pia and particularly this album. By comparison, Pia makes Janet sound like Aretha.

Yeah, I got the Narada one after finding the Jam/Lewis album. Prefer "Pia Z", but that ain't saying much. Both Narada and Jam/Lewis were definately giving her material they would never give their proper clients LOL.

Having said that, like "when the lights go out", "Pia Z" is good for a few tracks. Certainly "Heartbeat of love" is genuinely good pop with a goofy rap and cheesetastics guitars LOL. Narada is known for getting good lead vocals, but as you said, she was clearly not cut out for rnb/pop. Narada's lighter material suits her better though. Love the backing vocals on "heartbeat of love"....
