There it is! And they were pop ballads, not funk or R&B ballads. Big difference. PRINCE: Always and Forever
MICHAEL JACKSON: Always and Forever

Fancy Dancer indeed great. Ever heard Gimme My Mule? Absolutely supremely funky track. Also Sexy Lady from the Midnight elpee. Another band I must inject here is New Birth. |

Slippery When Wet Too Hot To Trot Brick House Funky Situation Free Gimme My Mule Machine Gun etc.. wasnt groundbreaking state of tha art funk like Parliament/Funkadelic or Slave, but The Commodores had some funk joints, especially on their early lps |

There it is!
It seems like this started in 1978 with the Natural High album. When "Three Times A Lady" became a massive hit single that summer, that's the direction they went in.Notice that when the next album came out,the two big singles were "Still" and "Sail On".Great songs, but nothing funky about 'em
Longtime fans will remember when they used to put out funk jams like "Machine Gun","Slippery When Wet",and "Fancy Dancer" |

anyone know if Lionel Richie ever released anything remotely funky on his solo albums or if he ever performed funky commodores tracks live? If not, why did he so distance himself from funk? If you've got funk, you've got style. |

He wanted to cross over and get that "pop" loot. FOOLS multiply when WISE Men & Women are silent. |
