Am I the only one who gets vague Phil Collins vibes from Ed Sheeran? Besides both being British pop singers, Ed reminds me a lot of Phil image-wise. Back in the 80s, Phil was one of the biggest stars in music and one thing that made him recognizable was how regular he looked. Amidst the flashy, flamboyant, gaudy and vibrant Princes, MJs, Madonnas, Cyndi Laupers, Duran Durans, etc., Phil looked like someone you'd run into on the street; he didn't have the enigmatic persona or facade that many of his peers had, simply put, Phil looked human. Today's top acts don't have the glitzy, OTT looks of their predecessors and come off as more human themselves but even as today's stars appear far more mortal, Ed stands out as a wallflower similar to how Phil did in the 80s. Ed isn't as out-of-place as Phil was back in the day but their commonality is a likeness they share nevertheless. | |
