TEDDY RILEY!!! What an AMAZING tribute excited

I LOST my mind when they did a tribute to

The Chile TITO Jackson came out and played!!! Touching tribute!

It was sweet how Teddy dedicated his performance to MJ and other artists he worked with that passed away.

Great award show so far! fro

Its ashame because I feel like he has been snubbed tremendously this whole year by award shows. The SOUL train should be ashame of themselves if they did not tribute Prince during the first hour. So far I haven't heard of any Prince tributes.

The immediacy of his passing seems to have worn off with the larger public. Fewer tributes in most mainstream publications and just random asides from celebrities remembering Prince. The zenith of the tributes was the BET awards and since both shows (BET and Soul Train )appeared on the same network, maybe they wanted to avoid redundancy. Surprising since Badu has spoke so glowingly about him on previous shows and it would appear to have been a natural assumption.

I wouldn't call that a MJ tribute. It was Teddy Riley doin' a song he produced for Michael.

I still think Soul Train should have tributed him because it is still seperate from BET and he also attended the Soul Train more times than BET. They should have at the very least mentioned him or did a collage of all the Black singers we lost this year and included him. I am shocked Badu didn't mention Prince being he is one of her idols. Didn't prince even hand pick her and Janelle to present that Billboard Icon award to him?

Thanks. I agree it really wasn't a MJ tribute but it was nice they had the video play in the background and they had Tito play on the song. It was Teddy's performance and he wanted to include a song he produce for Michael.

And he also did Johnny Kemp, Heavy D and Hi-Five (Tony Thompson) who have all passed away in the past ffew years who Teddy did records for.

Also, No BLACKstreet songs, but that's for another thread I guess, lol.

I heard that Dave Hollister was pissed off ranted on twitter about one of the members not giving a clearance for Teddy to sing a Blackstreet song.

I am glad that Teddy invited Tito to play on Michael's song that he produced, I also wish that there had been some mention of Natalie Cole, Prince, and others that have passed away. Loved that Teddy mentioned Michael and others that passed away in recent years.

The 2016 Soul Trains Awards show lives up its usual good, smart,

on-the-move A+ standards. (you are entilted to your opinion but A+ is legit, it is NOT

grade inflation). The Awards Show has a bountiful amount of all the key elements. Excellent MC/hostess duties from Erika Badu, vocal performances from several generations of performers that reprsented all decades of new episodes of Soul Train (Gladys Knight’s 72 year old voice is in top shape) and the present (i.e. Eric Benet, BJ & the Chicago Kid), diversity of musical styles, excellent vocal performances, excellent dance performances, excellent awards presentations and acceptances, excellent social consciousnesses (big assists again from Ms. Badu), excellent extra heavy duty potency female eye candy (Tatiana Taylor as only one obvious example), and excellent comedy.

Teddy and Brandy definitely deserved their liftetime acheivement type of awards.

Sounds like it was a very special night but Prince should have really been included. Would have been nice of Tito to acknowledge him along with his bro.

Did janet get nominated or win for Unbreakable? I was pleasantly surprised she had an AMA nomination so wondered
