Kanye West has been taken to UCLA Medical Center for psychiatric evaluation.

According to law enforcement sources, police responded to a call for a welfare check on Kanye around 1:20 PM today. He wasn't at his home at the time. Reportedly, paramedics also responded and ended up transporting Kanye to the hospital by ambulance.

Sources connected to Kanye said he was getting checked out by one of his doctors for severe sleep deprivation when someone -- possibly the physician -- decided he needed to be admitted.

Law enforcement sources state Kanye did not want to go, and was restrained when he was transported.

The hospitalization comes on the heels of Kanye abruptly cancelling the remainder of his Saint Pablo Tour, and launching into a verbal attack on Jay Z and Beyonce.

hope he gets some rest and recovers fully. poor dude is ill. not to mention, the spotlight tends to burn folks

That is true (IMO). Between that and the different celebrity beefs, albums (at least 4-5 since his mom died), fashion, marriage, and parenthood, he's wearing himself thin. I do believe the rants are part of who he is, but as someone stated yesterday, the most recent ones really seemed unhinged.

judging from his many unjustified attacks on other people i'd say this isn't just 'exhaustion'. i think he needs med and probably has for a long time.

but, will he stay on his meds when he's finally released??

I hope he is OK.

He's needed psychaitric help for years. Unfortunately, many in the minority communities do not "believe" in mental health care, and end up suffering needlessly....Like Dre's mother said on "Blackish" : "we don't need therapy, we got Jesus !"....That attitude has caused a lot of problems in minority (and lower class White) communities

I suspect before then. When he jumped on the stage with Taylor Swift years ago to try to take her award away, I suspected that this guy had "issues"...

hell yeah, i remember that! still surprised security didn't haul him offstage. ruined taylor's moment.

Wow, that's much more serious than I thought it was. I hope that he will be all right. The fame probably made his underlying issue much worse...
