Lady Gaga inspired by Prince?

What do you think? I think Lady Gaga was largely influenced by Prince in many ways, through music, vision and fashion.

Especially Lady Gaga's first 3 albums - although it's more EDM based than Prince's music, there's an atsmosphere of darkness, spirituality/ God and sex.

Even Lady Gaga's fashion reminds me of Prince - the fishnets, pantless attire, rock n' roll, leather - like Grafitti Bridge or even Diamonds & Pearls era.

Mark Ronson certainly is inspired by Prince, and he produced this Lady Gaga track:

Yeah, I'm not seeing any Prince influence from Gaga.

Prince has a widespread influence on music but that doesn't mean he has influenced everybody.

She's stated him as an influence because when he passed, she had some really sweet things to say. He didn't always have to inspire people just musically though, it could be through how to handle business, fashion and being true to yourself.

Me either. Gaga isn't influenced so much as she just panders. Prince appealed to everyone because he was young and talented, but also sort of ambiguous in fashion or sexuality early on. And by the time those questions built up about race, sexuality, and spirituality, he pulled a quickie asking "Am I black or white, am I straight or gay?" in sort of a "gotcha!" moment. Gaga panders to the LGBTQA+ community, and sadly many fall for it. (I thought my people were smarter than that.) Prince never put himself to battle another big star like MJ. He did his own thing, yet with Gaga it's constant Madonna comparisons. Of course, Madonna had a "gotcha" moment when she sang "Born This Way" in the middle of "Express Yourself" then added snippets of "She's not me" on the MDNA World Tour. Ouch.

Gaga's influence is whatever gets her attention. Her music is lacking, although I give her credit for her voice. Her songs are schticky and predictable. Prince constantly surprised folks. Madonna made it as big as she did because she truly as influenced by Prince's brash approach to religion and sexuality. She equated sex with seeing God much like Prince did. She chose to be provocative and do it in a way that appealed to the masses, and upset the status quo. Prince equated orgasms with being filled with the Holy Ghost pretty much. Gaga fails on these fronts. Every song strokes the fragility of her audience and doesn't empower them to do anything. "Lady Gaga stands for us" Stand up for your damn self! Madonna stood by the gay community because they embraced her first. Prince stood up for everyone because he was diverse in his music, his life, and his bandmates. That drew people in by the boat loads.

You mention Gaga and you get "meat dress". Wow. Legendary. rolleyes

As a side note, you dare mention something ill of Gaga, and the term "little monsters" comes glaringly to life by those who disagree. I once called her Lady Caca on my Tumblr, and had a barrage of Inbox messages telling me I had to change it. I never did. In fact, I did it more. smile

Your entitlted to your opinion but I think your distaste or indifference for her taint the view of the actual work she does for that community.

I think you drank the Kool-Aid. And I am part of that community, so I speak from ground zero.

Six of one.

Lady Gaga: The Monster Ball Tour (2010)

Image result for lady gaga the monster ball tour stage

Prince SOTT Tour (1987)

Gaga 2010

and of course Prince (1984)

Image result for Prince 1984

*Lady Gaga has an unreleased song called Reloaded that rips off When Doves Cry

*The song Hey Girl with Florence Welch (from her new album) gives off Elton John Benny and the Jets + Prince Beautiful Ones teas

Other than that, I don't see the influence but she could still be influenced by P in other forms.

the second two pictures I realy dont see a resemblance there just wearing the same color. Lady gaga is talented but I feel she lacks the most important thing as an artist and bruno mars and lenny kravitz also fall into this category they all lack creativity an orginality they come off try hard and derivative.

Well, she was trying to go for that 80's trench coat/shoulder pad look like Prince so that's why I added it.

And I agree with you, I love Gaga and Bruno but they're just repeating stuff that's already been done.

As a live performer and her stage antics yes

Musically not much

The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

nod exactly. There's no originality anymore. These artists are just recycling things that have been done over 30 years ago.I guess alot of their fans are too young to remember the 80s smile

I, myself, am of those young fans but since I grew up with my father playing 70's and 80's every weekend growing up, I became fascinated with the music and overall aesthetics of the past. This is why I am able to recognize when an artist is doing something already done, or is inspired by it.

When I first heard Locked Out Of Heaven by Bruno in 2012 I immediately thought "This sounds like The Police!".

I was also really happy when I first heard Treasure (also by Bruno) because I knew he'd brought back that 70's disco/funk.

I feel like Joanne may be the most we're really hearing of who Lady Gaga is in terms of song style. Its less theatrics and less gimmick so you get a real taste for who she is as a songwriter. I think a bit of it was there with the Born this way's but she retreated from it in ArtPop.

I hear way more Bruce and Elton influence on her than Prince tbh, but in terms of taking advantage of image, that's where she's clearly looked at the combination of Madonna, Bowie and Prince.

Change it one more time..
