New Metallica album has leaked.. Has anyone heard it yet? What are your first thoughts? I currently don't have a computer (except the one I'm using to type this now at work), so I can't dl it obviously. Gonna go old-school and wait until the release date. So far, I've heard mixed to great things. Apparently, a good amount of slower material, as well. However, the one thing everone's reviews have agreed on is the handful of faster songs are total rippers! What's everyone think so far? Get in your mouse, and get out of here! | |

i've read mixed reviews. still a bit long. 11 songs 88 mins. i've heard 3 songs that are great. i have it on pre order so i'll wait till friday.

I need to digest the new Metallica but as it stands now, i got somewhat mixed feelings about what I've heard so far(mostly positive though). The two things that I'm not so sure about are James's singing and some of Kirk's lead guitar work. Regarding James, i think Metallica sounds better when he sings in a lower register than what he's doing on some of the new songs. IMO, his higher pitched singing comes off as sounding somewhat strained. And as for kirk? IDK, i do think that he's a good player and some of the solos on the new songs are blistering as fu*k, but in a way it just sounds so familiar. My thing is i think that in more than a few instances Kirk's solos start out pretty damn smokin but he ends up not being able to close the deal. Its like the feeling(and focus) gets lost. And the wah-wah effect doesn't usually help the situation...IDK, since I've been into Metallica since around 1983, I've probably become somewhat jaded as to Kirk's playing.
Regardless. Good to have Metallica back.

This is way better than the last 2 albums. I'm glad the production is good. St Anger and Death Magnetic were polar opposites of bad production. Although Death Magnetic has good songs the production makes it almost unlistenable She Believed in Fairytales and Princes, He Believed the voices coming from his stereo

Regardless. Good to have Metallica back. I've only listened to the first half of the album so far as it's so bloody long. I barely have the attention span to listen to anything for that long in one sitting any more. As for your comments about James's singing. His higher register really took me by surprise. To the point of me not realizing it was him. That's impressive to me. I didn't know he had that much range. I can't speak on Kirk's playing because I don't know enough about guitar playing. Sounds good to me though. | |
