Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings Appreciation I just watched a video of Sharon at the June 30, 2011 concert in France. She opened for Prince on the Welcome 2 America Euro Tour. It's the same show where people were wondering why the arena was half empty, and where Prince changes his shoes during the opening of "Musicology" while sitting in his piano. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

From wikipedia about her health: During the screening of her documentary at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival, Jones revealed that her cancer had returned, and that she would be undergoing chemotherapy again.

Sharon also did a cover of "Take Me With You" in 2009, for the Spin magazine 25th anniversary edition for Purple Rain, that came with a covermount CD. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I highly HIGHLY recommend seeing Sharon & The Dap-Kings live. They put on a fantastic high energy show. I saw Sharon on New Year's Eve two years ago and couldn't have brought in the new year in a better way. And Sharon was on fire that night... And this after she just announced that she had just had her last dose of chemotherapy treatment! How she can tour like that while undergoing chemo treatment is beyond me. That is one super woman who doesn't let anything stop her! "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

It looks like Sharon had to postpone a Whitehouse performance due to pneumonia and that her cancer returned. I pray her health gets better soon...
The great Sharon Jones has had to cancel her Monday appearance at the White House after coming down with pneumonia.
Jones, 60, who has had two bouts with pancreatic cancer, would need to take a careful watch on her health as treatments can severely lower the patient’s immunity, making the susceptible to things like pneumonia. Sharon first announced in 2013 that she was suffering from bile duct cancer which was later revised to pancreatic cancer. Her initial battle was documented, in part, in the recent award-winning documentary Miss Sharon Jones!. It was at the premier of that film during the 2015 Toronto Film Festival that Jones announced that cancer had returned. Jones announced the cancellation on her Facebook account: Unfortunately, I won’t be able to perform at the White House tomorrow. I’m home in Augusta recovering from pneumonia and am too sick to travel. The Dap-Kings are still going to perform and luckily Binky Griptite and Saun & Starr will join them to cover for me. The White House was hosting the South by South Lawn event that also included performances by the Lumineers, Gallant, DJ Beverly Bond and Black Alley. Also expected to be in attendance was President Obama, Leonardo DeCaprio and a number of social media stars.

Daptone records really have that retro sound on point. Sad news about Sharon Jones, she's real talented and should be a much bigger star as should Charles Bradley. To me, that's real music and the Daptone are a cool backing group too. It's a shame they can't find the next Stevie, Marvin, Michael, Smokey, Al etc and bring that old school Soul sound back.

I consider myself lucky to have seen Sharon Jones in 2012 at Bumbershoot in Seattle. Amazing performer. I am very sad about the pancreatic cancer. I hate to say this, but pancreatic cancer has a very low survival rate. I wish her the best.

It's especially sad because after her first round of chemo treatment her then-diagnosed cancer appeared to go into remission... I pray that she will overcome it this time...even if the odds are stacked against her.
