I struggled with trying to find 5 overrated acts from the other decades. But these choices are without a doubt overrated.
1950s Elvis
2000 Beyonce Justin Timberlake Akon Jay Z Chris Brown
2010 Beyonce Taylor Swift Katy Perry Drake Justin Bieber [Edited 8/18/16 4:31am]

I could have put Chris Brown on this decade too, his music's even worse.

Besides Beyonce for the 2000s and nearly every big name now in 2010s (including Beyonce, Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, Drake, Justin Bieber, Timberlake, etc.), I say Biggie for the 1990s. The dude only dropped 2 albums yet usually resides at or near the top of GOAT lists. Ready to Die is a classic and his second album is good but 2 albums isn't a complete body of work. Pac had twice that amount by the time he died, 2 of which are bona fide classics, 3 if you include the posthumous The 7 Day Theory, at least twice as many as Biggie. Pac's death contributed to his placement as a legend in the game but with Biggie, it was mainly his death that put him on such a pedestal. On that note, one can consider Lauryn Hill overrated to. You got one album to your name that came out 18 years ago. Yeah, there is her work with The Fugees which could mount some form of defense for her but when addressing her, people generally refer to her as a solo star. Miseducation is a powerful album but not powerful enough to make Lauryn Hill a legend.

Lauryn Hill has a unique situation. You're right, she is not a legend.... but I definitly think she is a R&B icon. (Yea it she just has one album) but its a very iconic album that was groundbreaking musically. The Miseducation is also influential and culturally resonating. It also has influenced an entire generation but I agree she is not a legend.

[Edited 8/18/16 6:41am] When an artist leaves you hanging at the peak of their career or with their best work (Biggie and Lauryn, respectively) then people tend to overhype said artist. 2Pac also applies here but he's got a complete discography and was on top of the world before he died so he isn't overrated to nearly the same degree as the other 2.

Overrated pop singer of the 1960s, known for splitting his pants on stage once. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P._J._Proby Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Eminem? Dude is the greatest rapper of all time! Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

No he is not, and his lyrics are socially irresponsible, negative nihilistic gangsta nonsense. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

How this guy is considered anything more than a Weird Al type novelty act, I'll never know. And his whiny voice means that not only is what he's saying stupid and infantile, but it sounds terrible too.

1950s- Elvis. Only in America can this musical act be considered great. Here's a guy who never wrote a word for a song. A guy who can't play an instrument (the guitar was just a prop). A guy who never came up with a single idea for a song. A guy whose only musical attribute was his voice. Sure, he was charismatic but that's it. Yet he is venerated in the US. The rest of the world can't understand why.

"Overrated" is simply another way of saying "I don't like this artist and I don't understand why everyone else does". I knew some idiot would put Dylan in the list and before you know it, another idiot will put The Beatles in there, so thank you, 214, for providing some comic relief! [Edited 8/19/16 8:48am]

Considering these guys are sometimes compared to Mozart or Beethoven... and, believe me, there's nothing on the Beatles catalog that compares to, say, Mozart's Mass in C minor or Beethoven's ninth.

I actually enjoyed the songs from the Wings. They just weren't close to the material from the Beatles that touched on social and political issues and were more pop oriented. Silly Love Songs is fine as pop fluff as is Jet.
