Rihanna is underrated compared to some of her pop peers. She has actually improved alot since she debut and doesn't repeat herself. Its nice to see she is growing in a good direction artisticually and talent wise. ANTI is still the best pop album of 2016.

Just watched and I gotta say it's her finest performance to date and showcases her true vocal ability without and gimmicks attached.
I remember seeing shades of what she could do back at the 2013 Grammys for the Bob Marley tribute but I can't say I was a fan until Anti dropped. |

I've always been a fan because her singles are just THAT irresistable.
Umbrella
Shut Up and Drive
Diamonds
We Found Love
What's My Name
the list goes on.
But her live performances always lacked...life.
I know ya'll hate Beyonce, but if you're not willing to work extra hard to incorporate dance moves into a strong vocal performance you're gonna come off looking like an amatuer.
I've seen people as lackluster as Chris Brown give strong performances when they just stand there in front of the mic stand and just do what they do.
This is one of those moments.

Everyone just discovered she can sing.
The one song I didn't like on the album was the one she performed on Billboard Awards. The album version she just sounds TIRED and raspy, like she went in there crying and chain-smoking. The awards show performance was strong tonally and full of LIFE!
It kinda makes me mad that there won't be a nice recording of it available for download. Like, if this was any other artist, that performance would be tagged with "(LIVE)" and added to a ballads compilation or something.
And I swear to God that Celine Dion was lipsyncing. Didn't think I would see the day Celine lipped and Rihanna slayed live. |

I liked it but she needs to keep her throat open and not force her neck muscles. Help her Beyonce! "Keep in mind that I'm an artist...and I'm sensitive about my shit."--E. Badu |

Whitney and Mariah Carey did not dance and I find all of their performances in their prime to be far more electrifying than any Beyonce performance
You don't need to dance in order entertain people and Rihanna's performances are not THAT bad. |

Anti is really starting to make me turn into a Rihanna fan It is a really great album! I have thoroughly enjoyed it I like how she doesn't do any marketing gimmicks and I am glad she took a well deserved break before returning to music. She seems to stay in her lane and doesn't take herself to seriously which I respect. I do like how she is trying to grow as an artist. She could have released Anti last year but she wanted to work on it more. |

What I meant was that if you insist on dancing you have to find that balance between doing it AND giving a strong vocal. All this out-of-breathe can't hit the notes flat stuff just doesn't cut it.
You never got "blah" from most of Rihanna's performances? |

None of the performances of today "blow" me away if I am being honest. I don't really watch award shows or perfomances because none of this stuff entertains me.
However,
Beyonce mimes and I don't watch a lot of Rihanna performances but the ones that I saw recently like the one Motown mentioned and the one posted in this thread are pretty good imo. I saw the BBHMM performance she did for Iheart and she did choreography and it wasn't bad at all. I am not her stan but being objective. She is not as bad (Live) as some make it seem and unlike Beyonce she actually sings live. I still wouldn't pay money to see neither in concert but thats my 2 cents. |

I know it doesn't make sense. We all know Celine CAN sing. But she was awfully emotional that day and her lips just weren't matching the broadcast, and the only thing that didn't sound canned was the guest violin. |

Truly, I was shocked.
She's finally improved vocally. It took 10 years, but better late than never, I guess. |
