Don't You Think it odd... Out of the 4 entertainers that defined the 80s, MJ, Prince, Madonna and Whitney, 3 of them are now dead. All were black, all died under mystery circumstances, I am sorry dying in the lift seems odd to me. None have biological, living children(I doubt Prince, Paris and Blanket are Michael's biological children). I am not a conspiracy theorist but I see too much coincidence here. I saw on Facebook the other day, someone posted a shocking meme.I wish I could find it and post it here.It had a picture of Prince and Michael Jackson and it points out that Michael owned a huge portion of the Sony catalog and he is found dead.....and now, just a few years after gaining control of his master recordings from Warner Bros,Prince is found dead too

I think it has to do with the "Life Fast, Die Young" kind of mentality in the 80s. They really were some crazy years, especially cause it was the wake (beginning?) of music video performances and coreography as part of a routine in the life of thesee artists. They had to be in tip-top shape all the time, which led to over-exercising your body to the point where... well it just won't give anymore . Look at the 70s, on the other hand. George Clinton, Mick Jagger, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Pink Floyd (minus Syd)... these guys are still around today and they're fine. It has nothing to do with drugs (as some of these, well, most of these were heavy comsumptors) but it has to do with not "overdoing" it. Yes we all loved the Prince and MJ shows, but these guys were dancing their asses off, lol. The pains and pain-killers attached to them were gonna get them at some point. . That's how I view it, at least.

I want to add that now we have only 3 main exponents of funk music that are still with us: Sly, George Clinton, & Stevie Wonder (think 'Superstition'). . Man, I'm so grateful of having found this genre all on my own. R.i.p. Prince, you were one of my first entrances to the world of Funkytown

it's not a conspirary theory
everything that has went down w/these premier black artists is proving more and more day by day...........
the Pop Ascension is the worst thing that has ever happend to the recording industry and black cultural expression overall....
the greatest illusionary tactic ever devised in the cultural arts
it drew out, exploited, alienated, ostracized, stretched out, discumbobulated, spit out, tapped out, then threw to the waist side every thing that was good and would have existed way longer than what it has [Edited 4/24/16 7:02am]

Looks a whole lot different now, doesn't it? [Edited 4/24/16 10:30am]

The similarities between "The Big Three" (Prince,Michael and Madonna) are very interesting.
They were all born in the same year (1958)
They all grew up in nearby states (Minnesota,Indiana, and Michigan)
They all had their biggest success at about the same time (mid-80s)

We could just as easily state the differences: Prince was a multi-instrumentalist while the other two were not; Michael Jackson came from a musical family that had Motown behind them while Prince was a self made man etc etc...

We can also say MJ was a child star who managed to transcend into a bona fide adult mega star. Unlike Prince and Madonna his career started in earnest in the late 60s.

I'm WITH YA. Houston was popular, but she did NOT define the 80's. That honor would go 2 the above listed names and perhaps Cyndi Lauper should be up in that mix. Houston, though majorly talented and who had MANY hit records, didn't particularly strike me as one who was a decade defining agent. :-O Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

Whitney out sold all of them in the 80's except for maybe Michael. ...and let's not forget how big Janet was in the 80's. Control was a monster followed up by Rythm Nation. Don't sleep....look at the numbers

Is that right? Then what has Vainandy been talking about all this time? Van Halen, Def Leppard, Journey, & Bon Jovi sold more than Cyndi Lauper in the 1980s and Lionel Richie and Phil Collins were more popular than her. Phil was constantly played on the radio during the decade, solo & with Genesis. Journey was so popular they got a video game, arcade & home, probably the first music act to get one. Cyndi was mainly popular for a brief period like Air Supply, Men At Work, & The Go-Go's. John Cougar Mellencamp, Bryan Adams, & Duran Duran was successful on the charts longer than Cyndi. Back then some magazines said Cyndi would last long and that Madonna was a fad. But the opposite happened. Maybe it was her kinda wacky image and working with the WWF that hindered Cyndi's career as a hitmaker. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Journey, Motley Crue, and maybe Kenny G, Whitesnake & Guns N Roses outsold her too. Rhythm Nation 1814 sales was more 1990, than 1980s since it came out late in 1989.
