Can a lake be by the ocean tho? Lakes are usually FRESH water. Ocean's are SALTwater. Hmmm...:-O

Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

Sure. If it's an isolated body of water.

I think it's a metaphor similar to "taking small steps at a time" though. Or, Maxwell has been spending a lot of time in a tourist resort that had a lake by the ocean.

Nice.

I like the newly developed husky tone in his upper register.

I'm a huge Maxwell fan but i'm not feeling this song. Maybe it's a grower but after such a long break I expected something with more impact!!
I DON'T like the new huskiness in his voice. The sound isn't so clear & defined as it used to be. Has he problems with his vocal cords?
Also what a cheapskate video! Is that laziness on his part or what? Couldn't he at least have filmed himself walking beside a beautiful lake? The flashing double lyrics are confusing & annoying too!!
A disappointing 5/10 in my eyes.
I will of course be buying the cd on day of release & will hopefully be first in line to see him live if he tours the UK!!! Lol.

Its a nice song. His voice sounds the same really, he just sounds like he is using different tones or something on the background vocals and it sounds good, different to what he has done before.
I'm sure the next single before SUMMER will be a funky one.
Fyi its not the actual music video, its a lyric video which is the new thing to do before you release a music video.

I saw that he was streaming the track live last night on Facebook. I chose not to listen. I just want to hear it all in full. The whole album, that's part 2 of an alleged trilogy that is taking way too long to put out. We'll be in WW4 by the time he releases part 3.

I respect dude full on, but his creative process is looooooonnnggg as hell.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

The lyric video is just that. It's not the official music video. I like the song, it's safe for Urban AC.

Nice. Doesn't cover new ground, but it doesn't have to. It's a solid reminder of his earnest, classic talent -- and it certainly serves the purpose of making me want to hear the balance of the album.

I like Max but as far a covering new ground I'm. Not sure if he can.. Imo most of his releases sound the same. Embrya was probably the oddest album and over time has become my favorite.

I understand why you didn´t want to listen to it and rather wait for the album to drop but you missed out on a really good Q&A kind of interview with his fans.

The song, by the way, is the bomb!

I absolutely love it.

Can´t wait for the album to come out in July.

Ahhh...GOT'cha. I like it. Very nice song. Harks back 2 the "Fortunate" days a little. He's just gotta work out those damned apostrophes on the titles that make up this trilogy that's taking way 2 long 2 do. I mean, SERIOUSLY...Sade and Maxwell have GOT 2b the true SNAILS of the recording industry. Oh, and Kate Bush. I forGOT. :-p Nite! smile

^ And a certain Mr Archer.... aka King Snail! lol

Kind of similarly to nova, I took the 'lake by the ocean' metaphor as saying something like, "Let's just forget the big, wide world with all its turbulence, and focus on living in our own little world where the waters are calmer." I can relate to the plea - though it could be seen as a bit of a sad or even tragic sentiment too (i.e. aren't we all forced to swim in the ocean, whether we like it or not? and what's making the ocean so unbearably hard to swim in anyway?).

Could also be that his missus is suffering from moderate vaginal dryness. Or he himself is underperforming in the ejaculatory department. I'm just sayin'. wink

Either way, I like the track a lot. Nice to have him back at his dreamy best! music

He also, although very briefly, talks about the reason why he is a bit slow as far as his releases are concerned, and he talks about his inspiration (pain, breakups, loss etc.)

Really worth watching, and he seems to be very down to earth and humble, too. I really enjoyed watching it.

Good to see him back and look so healthy, determined and open.

Really nice artist and person, in my opinion.
