Hmmm, if the Q&A is after the track, I might go find it & watch that part.

He also, although very briefly, talks about the reason why he is a bit slow as far as his releases are concerned, and he talks about his inspiration (pain, breakups, loss etc.)

Really worth watching, and he seems to be very down to earth and humble, too. I really enjoyed watching it.

Good to see him back and look so healthy, determined and open.

Really nice artist and person, in my opinion.

I did go back & listen to the interview portion. I've always enjoyed his interviews, & him talking in general, although it's a rarity with him sometimes.

It's frustrating from someone who has so consistently made solid, quality, and overall wonderful music, that he goes so long between albums. I mean, that 3 year break after Embrya had me thinking he was washed up and done. It just seemed like a longer time than it was. Then the stretch after that was 8 years, then 5 more. Dude's 42. His first album was when he was 23, (although it'd been shelved for a while before Columbia even put it out); he only has 5 studio albums, and one 1 EP. That's some Michael Jackson time frame shiz.

I suppose that makes the music more special when it does get freed, but still. The waiting torture, in a world of Rihannas and Biebers.

I'm anxious for July's release. I can only hope that NIGHT will come sooner than 2021.

Neo soul singer Maxwell has followed up the surprise arrival of his new single "Lake By the Ocean" by mapping out his Summers' Tour. The trek will likely feature tracks off Maxwell's upcoming LP blackSUMMERS'night, the follow-up to 2009's similarly titledBLACKsummers'night and the second album in what the singer called a trilogy.

After a show the New Orleans Fair Ground on April 23rd, Maxwell's Summers' Tour formally kicks off June 10th in Tacoma, Washington and wraps August 7th in Jacksonville, Florida. Check out Maxwell's official site for full ticket information.

"Sonically, it's a lot more hi-fi," Maxwell told Rolling Stone of blackSUMMERS'night in 2014. "I wouldn't say electronic because it's still pretty soulful and we have strings and we have all the live instruments going on, but it's just a little bit more trippier than the first album. Because the first part was BLACK, and I associate that with soul. I really wanted it to be really traditional. Obviously the way it ended up being, it's just a classic, sonic band sound. This one has the same elements, but there's something a little bit more... I would say cyborg-ish about it."

In a statement following the unveiling of "Lake By the Ocean," Maxwell said he's been recording his new album in New York over the past few years with some of the collaborators who helped him on his breakout 1996 LP Urban Hang Suite. "I'm working with all of the same people on the new album," Maxwell said. "It's always been a family type of thing, and I think that that's what, maybe, has made it special. It feels, to me, even better than what we did 20 years ago."

I've often wondered why artist like Maxwell, and D'Angelo both whom imo are vocally gifted out of the majority of today's R&B/Soul singers take forever to release a new project . But the less talented are constantly releasing something. I find it amazingly sad. I've never listen to BLACKsummers'night straight through. When this new one drops I check them both back to back. A better idea would be to release blackSMMERS'night & blacksummers'NIGHT all at once.

The original idea for the trilogy was to have them in a much quicker succession than this span of time. It was supposed to be 3 albums over 3 years (roughly). I knew when SUMMERS never showed up a year later, that something was up.

I high-five you on the D'Angelo thing, too. I always wonder if folks get caught up in drugs, in being broke, writer's block, or they just plain don't care. Or maybe they lost their momentum in the market, and no one wants to sign them, or has much interest in promoting them. It seems Black Messiah came and went faster than HITNRUN Phase One. It's an album I'm still trying to get through. I liked what he did on SNL, but I mean - how hard is it to get on SNL? You know a guy who knows a guy.

Again, I hope it's much sooner than 2021 that NIGHT hits the shelves. I'd not wait on SUMMERS or NIGHT to listen to BLACK. BLACK is a definite growth for him lyrically and musically. It took me a minute to realize Emybra-Maxwell had matured a bit. But still - for me it beats anything Prince has put out in almost the last decade (not flame bait - just my experience).

Yeah, Out of HitnRun Phase I&II and that LotusFlow3r 3 CD set. I only found a total of 10 that are ok . 2 out of the 10 Id like without the lyrics, just instrumental. Even though his current outputs as a whole have been way below, I always hold out for Prince because he's capable. As for Max and D' I just wish they'd drop a double or triple album. (24-36 tracks) If they choose to disappear for 6-or more yrs that should hold us over.

I feel the same way. Take your hiatus after the trilogy, not during it. I wish he'd make this a double album of Summers' and Night. Of course he won't.

He seems like a real nice guy. Not really feeling the song. Then again, he is 42. But this interview is good. And his girlfriend is smokin' hot.

That´s a great interview, thanks for posting. I never knew that Maxwell had Turkish relatives and a Haitian mother. I thought both parents were Puerto-Rican (because of his Spanish songs).

He seems to be a very down to earth, nice kind of guy , someone you could have a great conversation with. Comes across as very humble, too.

I like the song, it reminds me a bit of his early phase....more Embrya than Urban Hang Suite. The last album and the Now album were not really my cup of tea but I can´t wait for SUMMER to be released.

And yes, his girlfriend DOES look hot. lol

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"
