so much great music and lyricism...MPG had arguably the greatest male singing voice ever...only Luther Vandross and Nat Cole are comparable...the biography his brother Frankie wrote, is so sad...

"Mercy Mercy Mercy" is prophecy...all the verses tell of things that would occur 20 to 30 years later...amazing

Marvin was and will forever be phenomenal. A superb vocalist, he could as they say sing the phone book, wrote a ton of great songs and was way ahead of his time with songs like What's Going On. He was an immense talent and is sadly missed today. I mean Motown in their pomp had a supreme Dream team of talent under their roof Smokey, Stevie, Michael, David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks, Diana Ross, Jimmy Ruffin, Martha Reeves the list goes on and of course Mr Marvin Gaye. Look at who he's influenced, they are still biting his style now because songs like Got to Give It Up and countless others still stand the test of time. The Marvin and Tammi duets were great too and really a big part of his Cannon. They tried to capture that magic again with Miss Ross but they were one of a kind duo. What's Going On is a masterpiece. Let's Get It On is like a blueprint for the new school R&B cats to follow. There's not enough plaudits to describe Marvin but talent personified is certainly one of them. I have too many favorite Marvin songs to name but two of the favorite's of mine are the Bells which he cowrote for The Originals and Baby I'm for Real also for them.
