I've been a big fan of his ever since his excellent debut album A Strange Arrangement, but I have to be honest. These new songs aren't doing much for me confused I think these songs are bland....decent,but bland.Last year,Mayer and his buddy Jake One formed the band Tuxedo and released an incredibly funky,self-titled debut album. That album is fun, catchy and exciting.Unfortunately, these new songs lack that same excitement.

Thoughts?

I've only heard "Cosmic Love" and it was okay.

I really dug Where Does This Door Go? We'll see what he does with the rest of MAT.

"Cosmic Love" is OK,but I got bored with it after a few listens.

I'm gonna wait and see how the rest of the album is.I hope that he hasn't totally abandoned the retro-R&B sounds that made his debut album so enjoyable.

I hope not, that's what I liked about his music in the first place.

Great news! Always good to hear new music from this very talented guy.

Agree with others no major stands out like on his excellent last CD.

Love Like That is the best of the bunch so far...see him live if you can!
The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

^^I also like how the video looks like it's straight outta 1982 smile it totally captures the retro feel of the song.

After listening to the album s few times in its entirety,I have to say that I am disappointed confused "Breakfast In Bed" is as good as it gets. It's not that all the other tracks are terrible,it's just that these songs don't really ignite. These are mediocre songs. The worst thing is,Mayer has abandoned something that he actually does very well: the soulful retro-R&B that made his debut album so satisfying,in favor of bland pop numbers that don't really go anywhere.

by making music 1000x better than Justin Timberlake for example?

Has anyone tried unplugging the United States and plugging it back in?

There's no way for you to quantify that. But I'd be more than happy to read how you qualify it!

Anyways, I will be checking out his new album; Hawthorne is a great recording artist.

lol I get you . . . but that's one of the few things they have in common as artists.

(Maybe it's because MH never left Janet Jackson out to dry? boxed )

Interesting that this board has responded that way. But there's probably something to that.

Anyways, I don't want to hijack the thread so, carry on!

I get the sense some folks still haven't forgiven him here, though I got past it.

I am looking forward to hearing the whole album. I really did like Where Does This Door Go?*

*Another JT parallel -- Pharrell was behind the boards for a couple of tracks on WTTDG

How does Stevie Wonder escape the criticism some have on this board towards Lil Wayne?
he's also black

you want it to be simple, but others don't thnk like you. so please accept that most folks judge artists by the music they make, and not their skin.

Has anyone tried unplugging the United States and plugging it back in?

You know what? I sorta like the fact that he isn't really popular. He's more of an underground artist and I think that's cool smile His last album 'Where Does This Door Go?' (with songs produced by Pharrell) was an obvious attempt to turn him into a hitmaking superstar, but I think he's much more comfortable doing his own thing.
