I used to have this on a mix cassette. I wasn't aware there was a music video until Youtube though.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

i had this on 7" single, i was only 13. it was no.1 in the uk, it was everywhere

I don't think it was a big chart hit in the US, but the local Top 40 stations played it a lot for a little while. Then all of a sudden it was never played again on any station. That happened with other songs too like Great Gosh A Mighty by Little Richard. So I guess it was a regional hit, which sometimes happens because the US is a big place. Some songs become popular in certain areas in the states and little known in others.

Classic. Massive hit in the UK because we're all a bit eccentric and we like to be seen that way!
It takes all of the classic star trek catchphrases and repeats them ad nauseam!
