New bands/artists that people are listening to. I'm listening to lots of new artists and I wonder if anyone has any suggestions for acts that I should check out. I'm tired of seeing established band's ridiculous ticket prices and I've decided to support up and coming musicians. My other half calls it my midlife crisis music! Harsh but probably true! So far I've enjoyed Zibra, Vant, Lion Babe, The Blossoms and Clean Cut Kid.

Out of curiosity, where does one go (on the web, that is) to find up and coming musicians? Where did you find out about all these guys?

Google search. I got a list of about 100 and systematically eliminated any I didn't like the sound of! Time consuming, yes, but it was a great deal of fun too. I would definitely recommend it

I find out who is playing locally and then check out the listed bands on the internet, and then, if I like like their music, I'll go see them. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Something like 'up and coming bands' 2016? There's a few sites that do the top 50 / 100 up and coming music acts. I made a list of them and listened to their music on YouTube or spotify. It was a bit like panning for gold! I was thinking about the rolling stones / Prince / inxs / Duran Duran basically any big band and imagining them starting out now. It must be tough for new bands to get into the scene when the mainstream music business is busy pushing so many manufactured starlets. I was looking for something raw and real. Entertaining and challenging. I really wanted to stick it to the man by discovering something new by my own volition instead of being spoonfed by the media.

When you say up and coming bands/artists, do you mean local artists that are just starting out with a demo and playing small clubs?
Or do you mean bands that may have one or two albums out and are critically acclaimed and tour internationally although in medium sized venues?
It is sort of hard to find out about local artists, but it's relatively easy to find out about new criticially acclaimed bands through various blogs and publications such as pitchfork or places like that.
If you want something raw and real, check out the band Savages, they are an all female pop/punk band from London. I just saw them this weekend. Best concert ever. Not sure if they fit your up and coming definition since they are on their second album, Adore Life and sell out venues of around 1000 to 2000 people.

Savages are really interesting! I love T.I.W.Y.G. The Shut Up video has some great advice too! Thanks for the recommendation. In answer to your question I'm looking for artists who are contemporary without overtly appearing as if their primary objective is to be famous. I read a great article about Keith Richards this morning and he sounds as if he's bored with the 'showbiz' style of the current crop of new musicians. I feel the same so I'm going to look a bit deeper from now on. Thanks for the recommendation of Savages, much appreciated

Ghost are awesome. The music doesn't match the image and they're actually quite a melodic rock band, very interesting! I loved the 70s/ Tarantino style of the Cirice video and the band really remind me of the doors. Look beyond the satanic pantomime shtick and they are act
