I don't think it was a big chart hit in the US, but the local Top 40 stations played it a lot for a little while. Then all of a sudden it was never played again on any station. That happened with other songs too like Great Gosh A Mighty by Little Richard. So I guess it was a regional hit, which sometimes happens because the US is a big place. Some songs become popular in certain areas in the states and little known in others.
