Update! The arrangement on the Superbowl was actually listenable and reminded me more of "Partition" which I actually enjoy.
Update! While the song is still all about Beyonce, I realize that she is using her *own* image as a black woman in a powerful way and symbolic statements regarding Blu Ivy's afro and Jay-Z's Jackson 5 nostrils are actually statements of pride.

I havent been much of a fan of Beyonce really - I prefer her sister Solange who admittedly hasnt had to tread the line of commercialism as much as Beyonce has. Solange has a gift with visuals and I see Solange all over the video - its breathtakingly well done, in the symbolism as well as the cinematography and the editing. This song, and the video is SMART, I dont care what anyone says...it's meanings are deftly layered - its really just freaking brilliant.

I like Beyonce; she’s fun, has a sound I don’t hear often, and makes interesting music. . A lot of Beyonce critics are close to myth-making in their disdain. She pays off the press (I guess, all of it?), which means good reviews don’t matter. Her fans are into it, but they’re weak willed, believing the paid-off press, or caught up in images (seriously?). If you hear her sing well, it doesn’t matter, because she had her vocal levels doctored, and had Kelly and Michelle’s buried. Her music sounds like noise, but she’s too commercial. That’s not real dancing. Skin whitening. . None of it’s provable, but like all myths, it’s not about proof, it’s about confirming what you already think you know, and everyone else is naive for not seeing it. . It’s cool, I guess, but why can’t you just say “She doesn’t do it for me?” I can say it about: Justin Timberlake, Joni Mitchell, Beastie Boys, even Whitney Houston…they just didn’t do it for me. I’m not going to bend over backward with shadowy theories on how they have no talent, and everyone else is wrong, and I’m right. Just look away. No big loss.

Her comment on ADELE is stupid, out of respect, oh god talk about being full of your own shit. One Adele album has sold more than 5 Beyonce albums, I mean is this woman serious? If people want to buy you they will and if they don't they don't, sorry but Beyonce buyers are not Adele buyers and vice versa. Adele has a wider appeal than Beyonce at this point, its just reality, not even close in sales. Beyonce doesn't make white music, so why compare her sales to Adele or Taylor Swift. She's one of only three black artists to have 3 triple platinum albums in the 2000s decade (the other two are Usher and Alicia Keys whose sales have fallen considerably since then).

Well Beyonce thinks she is Michael Jackson so its not that far fetch she would think she could compete with Adele.

It's really pissing me off that this bullshit song, video and Super Bowl performance are being hailed as "homage" to the Black Panthers. Absolutely nothing about any of it made me think of the WOMEN of the Black Panthers.

Yea it is sad, it shows how much we have fallen as a society. I waiting to see when the Black intellectuals will be bold enough to call her out. I am tired of her misrepresentation of black culture.

The smartest thing she did was not put this out at the same time as Adele because she would have just gotten her feelings hurt. Adele has more soul than Beyonce IMHO. I'm guessing she thinks she can beat Rihanna with whatever the fuck this ridiculous noise is.....umm, okay sweetie. She's talking about she loves her negro nose with Jackson 5 nostrils while swinging her blonde weave. This song is about as real as her hair and why anyone still takes her serious with this brainless horseshit 'music' she keeps putting out is beyond my understanding. Didn't this attention thirsty heffa just make a video with Coldplay pretending to be Indian? All tht money and she's still trying to be a hoodrat. Beyonce, you know you grew up in the suburbs hunny...stop it. Prince Rogers Nelson

When I saw that Beyonce had released a new song and video the day before her SB performance. I said now that's how you make a statement! I don't care for the song but I liked the video. I loved seeing Blue lvy with her natural hair dressed like a little girl should be dressed. She is so cute to me. I liked the fact that she brought attention to the black lives matter movement. What I don't like however is people acting as if she is the first and only black female artist to discuss social issues in her music. Let's not forget Janet Jackson did this over 25 years ago with Rhythm Nation. Fully clothed mind you. Beyonce ain't crazy she knew Adele's album would sell extremely well, Rihanna did to. That's why neither of them wanted to release music around that time. I'm not a Rihanna fan but I felt bad for her. Not only was the release of her album a total disaster. But Beyonce came out and basically stole all of her shine. But then again we can't really blame Beyonce because its been known for weeks that Beyonce was going to be apart of the SB. Maybe Rihanna should have waited to release her album. BlackCat1985

The album has been delayed multiple times since late 2014. Rihanna waiting even longer would have been worse IMO.

- Didn't Rihanna's people just last week announce that she went plat already? I don't think Rihanna has been affected yet. It's too early to tell. Besides you're comparing an album release to a single release. You could compare "Work" to "Formation" for a better comparison though. - Most labels and artist want the bragging rights of saying they have the No. 1 album/song in the country. As I stated earlier, Beyonce can claim to be the baddest bitch in the game, queen/king B and all but you see she didn't dare release anything until Adele's numbers became more reachable for her to reach No. 1. Respect has nothing to do with it, it was common sense. Don't have to be smart or brilliant for that one. - Since you mention Jan, I'd have to say "Black Eagle" also does the movement justice for a modern day reference.
