I'm devastated.
David Bowie changed the course of my life forever. I never felt like I fit in growing up in Michigan. Like an oddball or a freak. I went to see him in concert at Cobo Arena in Detroit. It was the first concert I'd ever been too. I snuck out of the house with my girlfriend wearing a cape.
We got caught after and I was grounded for the summer. I didn't care.
I already had many of his records and was so inspired by the way he played with gender confusion .
Was both masculine and feminine.
Funny and serious.
Clever and wise.
His lyrics were witty ironic and mysterious.
At the time he was the thin white Duke and he had mime artists on stage with him and very specific choreography
And I saw how he created a persona and used different art forms within the arena of rock and Roll to create entertainment.
I found him so inspiring and innovative.
Unique and provocative. A real Genius.
his music was always inspiring but seeing him live set me off on a journey that for me I hope will never end.
His photographs are hanging all over my house today.
He was so chic and beautiful and elegant.
So ahead of his time.
Thank you David Bowie.
I owe you a lot. .

I doubt he spends every waking second on twitter. He seems to use it once a day, goes crazy, posts and deletes then logs off. And at any rate its his life he can chose to commemorate or grieve in public or private. Its not your life to try to control.. as if everything has to be done in public or it doesn't exist.

Only last night, I was listening to his recent music, thinking how great most of it was and is and hoping he would be able to carry on and do a few more albums in this surprise Indian Summer of his career.

I think the killer is that many of us guessed he hadn't been well at all following his heart attack back in 2004 and the subsequent gradual disappearance from public life. Many of the photos of him in later years seemed to show him in not great shape either. So, up until he released The Next Day back in 2013, I had been more than half expecting to hear the sad news we got today sooner rather than later.

Then of course, he came back sounding great, looking pretty good in his videos and new photos and we thought he was over whatever the problems were and able to get back to what he did best ...

Carnegie Hall has announced plans for a David Bowie tribute concert, which will take place on March 31 as The New York Times reports. The Roots, The Mountain Goats, Cyndi Lauper, Perry Farrell, Jakob Dylan, and Heart's Ann Wilson are some of the artists who will honor Bowie at the event. Longtime Bowie collaborator Tony Visconti will coordinate the house band.

The concert is put together by City Winery's Michael Dorf, who has previously staged tribute concerts for Bill Withers, Prince, Bob Dylan, and more. Proceeds from the show will benefit several organizations: Young Audiences New York, Little Kids Rock, Church Street School of Music, the Center for Arts Education, the American Symphony Orchestra, and Grammy in the Schools.

I can't imagine this world without Bowie this death honestly hits very hard. There's few people who have influenced the way that Bowie has.

Prince almost never publicly comments on an artists death. He usually saves it for an on-stage tribute.

I woke up to this news this morning, and I was completely shocked. I honestly cannot process the idea that Bowie COULD die. Yeah, I know...he was a human like all of us, but he never really seemed to be. He was this weird, incredible alien who walked amongst us. His music is a huge part of my life, and he influenced just about every other musician I listen to! From Danzig to Madonna, from Nirvana to Alice Cooper, from Garth Brooks to Wednesday 13...you'd have an easier time listing artists who WEREN'T influenced by Bowie.

That's one ugly post. Why bring misplaced negativity in to an obituary thread? If you think Prince's apparent non-action is bad, it's not nearly as bad as what you have just done. As others have said, no-one has to make public comment and not EVERY artist has done so. I think you should be more mindful of the karma of your own actions.

MTV News posted this tweet with a link to a video about David Bowie criticizing MTV for not showcasing black artists. This took A LOT of guts to say something like this. It could have been very career damaging for him. Thankfully, it wasn't.

Not the place or the time for this shit. Prince always pays tribute playing some songs in concert like he did with MJ. When Prince goes and hope it aint for years , i wont come here because i know people like you will still be shiting on Prince in his death. Hope you get karma for that post. RIP Mr Bowie = Legend
