damn...I really loved this man's music. I', sitting here with tears in my eyes thinking about how much his music enriched my life. The song I loved most by David Bowie is "The Man Who Sold The World". It's also my alltime favorite Nirvana song (which was a cover of Bowie's timeless classic). :'(

That doesn't surprise me at all, that he wanted to make one last album while he still could. Where did you read it?

Rolling Stone. His producer stated that it was "planned" the album, as he knew his death was near.

Stunning. All of it. That he was generous enough to even think about a "parting gift" for his fans, as he was dying. That it, Blackstar, is as incredible a gift as it is. That he stuck around to see it released, and was gone just days later.

Watching the Lazarus video in the proper context is almost unbearable, and I'm a new fan. For those of you who have been there for years, I'm thinking about you today, and I'm sorry for your loss.

This comes as a shock, yet birth and death are life. RIP Mr. David Bowie.

I read somewhere Mr. Bowie worked — writing songs in bed — to the end. What an amazing end, the final period to sum up an extraordinary artistic career. Bowie and his many gifts arrived at the right time — end of the 60's thru 70's — when radio and the music industry pretty much allowed folks to do their thing. Bowie music (early stuff) was primarily played on "alternative radio" stations in the States. Maybe this explains why his songs and albums milled around the top 40. No matter, the collective work of Bowies' couldn't and wasn't ignored. I always got the impression... yes, he wanted to be successful but Bowie created the best music he could and allowed the chips fall where they may. It's fitting that Black Star was released on Bowies' 69th birthday. In my humble opinion, a very damn good album.
