Beautifully written.

I was shocked to hear the sad news this morning. I've been watching clips on Youtube of his Soul Train appearances. It's safe to say that there probably wouldn't have been Prince without David Bowie first. I had no idea he was ill....may he RIP. Sad news indeed...

Don't feel like something's wrong with you for feeling sad even though you didn't "know" him. We all have artists that we feel a connection to and it's perfectly normal. He'll be missed...

Man, this. That video fucked me up. My best friend just died of cancer in November at age 49 and he turned me on to Bowie in High School. I've been a huge fan ever since. Woke up this morning and the first thing my wife said to me was "David Bowie died". What a shitty way to start the week.

It was so strange this morning...I put the news on just after 8.00am and the BBC's top story was mid-flow. I couldn't work out why they were discussing his music. I was thinking "must be a slow news day if a Bowie tour announcement is the leading story". I was even thinking ahead to finance and when he might do the UK, if I could afford to go, if he might play Glasto this year again...

Then they started talking in the past tense and I was like "what the f*ck?". One of my best friends is a huge Bowie fan; I looked down at my phone and sure enough there's a text from him. I didn't even need to read it, I knew he'd passed.

Shocking that it was so sudden and unexpected, but typical of Bowie to do it his own unique way, with a secret epitath in a fantastic new album. As one of the other posts on here put it so wonderfully, the Earth is billions of years old; how lucky we are that we were here at the same time as David Bowie.

I got my first Bowie album at age 12 or so, when I bought the reissue of "Low" at Strawberry Records. I had probably seen him on VH1 or something and took an interest. Before Bowie, I mainly listened to what my parents suggested, tedious classic rock like Rush and Styx.

And with that CD, EVERYTHING started to happen. He awakened my awareness of my own sexuality and the possibility of art. He showed me what it really means to have an identity. He is by far the biggest influence on my life. He lit a fire in me, showing there was more to the world than my tiny small town.

There was always something distantly forbidden and mysterious about Bowie. I remember my parents and sister being suspicious and worried about my intense interest in him, which made me all the more obsessed.

When I discovered Bowie's music it was like discovering Prince's music.

im glad he was able to have his privacy in his last days, and also leave his fans with a great parting gift. he was one of my favorite rockers.

I am still in shock! I can not believe he is gone! He was so creative and innovative. He will truly be missed!!! I know Iman is going through!!
