I'm not saying any of the songs are bad, but the 2nd half definitely slowed down for too long. I'd prefer to be left wanting more than wondering 'how much longer?' My opinion is that some editing could have taken this from being a very good album to being great album.

No. It's good as it is. The threesome of Promise/Lesson learned/Black Eagle is perfection. And it ends on a high note with Gon b alright.

I agree with this, and the perfect ending to make u want to re play the album from start to finish, like getting to the pot of gold in the end almost

So what you're saying is that Janet can't be sexy (something she always has been) AND upbeat because of her age?

What a stupid thing to say.

That's nowhere near what I said. Being sexy is natural not forced anyway. It's more obvious to me now epecially since I saw her last nite. That Janet has toned down considerably because of her new found religion and & marriage. Like someone else said here. Her new album is a balance of uptempo & slow jams. Being grown & sexy doesn't have to do with age. It's maturity & coming into your own.

Janet is happy now inside & out now. It shows...

I never said I wanted all upbeat songs, I said the fucking album is too long & had too many slow jams back to back.

I also said it was a very good album.

Goddamn you're annoying.

For the record I hate Beyoncé.

I like Well Traveled and Lessons Learned but I find myself going over it I admit now. As stated on the album if this were on vinyl, SIDE1 is where Night would end. SIDE 2 would begin with Dreamer / Euphoria.

Looking at it this way makes it to me less of a 'challenge' in my opinion if we are just going over listening to the whole thing.

I agree with all your opinions. It does get kinda slower towards the end.

This is a very good album...but it is not great for the reasons you stated (which is why I don't think its better than RN or VR). I think some of the tracks could have been cut, too much filler. Overall, it is a high quality album though and I would give it a B+.

I think Take Me Away, Lessons Learned and Well Travelled were a departure from janet's usual sound, so I can see why they go over you, but after 2-3 listens they sounded better to me and very much like janet. Thinking about the context of what or who janet is singing about or what was on her mind makes me appreciate it more. I'm really feeling Take Me Away right now, and realized that the order of the songs tell a story, which is why I'm really liking it this time around, but to each their own.

Well. If I would heed your advise and absolutely have to cut one song, it would be "After you fall". It's kinda boring, so there you go. The good thing is, if we are tired of songs, we can just delete them individually and it takes nothing away from the album. So really, to complain about too many songs is stupid.

Really? It is a simple song but imo that is what makes it really good, the pathos and the emotion shines through it along witht he overall message. Giving opinions about songs one likes and doesn't like isnt stupid lol Its just discussion and honestly no one has said anything negative about the album just some things that could have improved it.

Anyone else feel that Michael's spirit can be felt quite strongly all across this beautiful album? I've actually found the whole experience quite a cathartic one, as I am a massive MJ fan and felt like my left arm was hacked off when we lost him.

I've seen and heard hundreds of tributes since his passing and they've always left me feeling empty. Even listening to the posthumous MJ albums leave me cold. Even though there is only one song on the whole album that is confirmed to be about MJ, his presence is felt so strongly that I find this album the most sincere and soothing tribute to her brothers legacy.

Don´t agree at all.

The only think that reminds me a bit of MJ is her voice on The Great Forever.

The album has a classic Janet, Jimmy & Terry sound, like the Janet or RN album. I don't hear any tribute at all.

Janet always had her own career, not everything is about MJ.

The Great Forever is the most MJish song on the cd, that could have been a demo of his. lol

I can understand how listening to her new cd might be emotional for MJ fans. To hear his sister sing emotional songs about life. She's just a human being afterall, and to have a music artist going through tough times and releasing music in response to it, it is cathartic, whether it's relating your own personal losses to hers, or just experiencing the songs for what they are.

Janet's been through alot, it would have been slightly off key for her to come back without touching on it all with the new cd. To not go deeper than club songs and sex. She had two 'just having fun' albums before hand and they were not on par with her other stuff, and this album is much more introspective and she sounds very soulful because it's coming from within. And alot has gone on within, and we only know from the outside in confused .

I think Michael's death did effect her choice of artistry, him being deceased effects her life, grief is something that changes your entire world. It's kind of the same with his ex wife Lisa Marie, her last album was pretty much all about him. razz

Janet seems to be very family orientated overall with this album, looking back on her childhood with the photographs in No Sleeep, and the lyrics to Broken Hearts Heal. Lessons Learned some people think is about Katherine Jackson.

I think she went back to her older albums for inspiration for her Unbreakable sound, Gon B Alright is very janet. album, What'll I Do. Unbreakable is a general mix of her 90s albums, including Rhythm Nation a tad. She said 'I've been listening' so maybe she's been reading the forums and what her fans wanted to hear. lol

So does anyone know the MJ song that's sample on Dream Maker? If it's not Euphoria? wink

I think this album is extremely good. cool I'm going to see her at the 02 next year, which will be bittersweet because of Michael too.

No. But saying that an album is too long and certain songs should be removed. No one is forcing you to listen to every single song and while you love ATF, to me it is one song that could be removed, should that be necessary, but it isn't. I don't have to listen to it, while someone like you might love that song.

'after you fall' is the only song i skip, not that its not a good song i can just do without it compared to the rest.the only other song i sometimes go past is 'lessons learned'. the back to back 'black eagle/well traveled' is awesome and ending the album with 'gon b alright' is perfect to me.

But I never said "the album was too long" I just said the album had filler songs that it could had did without. Also, it is my opinion, you don't necessarily have to agree with it. However, please don't dictate how someone should express their opinion. There are other songs on the album that I like besides After You Fall which I don't even consider to be the strongest on the album.

AYF is the emotional epicenter of the album and the album is less cohesive thematically w/o it. Even its sequencing is important. I do get that it's not necessarily the type of track one listens to every time they put the album on but its a less impactful album w/o it

I know most are over the idea of "courting pop radio" esp. given Janet's "blacklisting" but THIS is the joint to see if they're ff'ing with her or not. It's Escapade 2015!

Her new cd has alot of the same talk she told Oprah. I Was Wrong - talking about how she didn't realize he truly loved her, Just a Dream - saying she's in love with him and he visits her in her dreams and she doesn't want to wake up if it's only a dream. Weary is another song that mentions the 'spiders' taking over his life and stuff. Pretty much the whole cd was about him and her leaving Scientology.

Can we confirm that Janet is giving her CD away for free with every suvenir sold at her concerts or was that just in San Francisco? Is Billboard counting these sales?
