Great comeback from Janet that's made me go back and dig out my old Janet albums. Haven't listened to this much JJ since the mid-nineties. Kinda feels like I'm reliving my youth to some degree.
As for the new album, I think the first half is definately stronger than the second half. I consider After You Fall to be the best ballad she's ever sung, and stuff like Unbreakable, The Great Forever, Night and Broken Hearts Heal are all A grade material. And I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the young MJ sample on Dream Maker - that was a nice touch.
I do feel the album would be stronger without Take Me Away and 2 B Loved, which sound a bit filler-ish to me.
Overall though, this is definately her most satisfying, focused and mature work since TVR. Well played Jan.

So... you dismiss an entire era despite the fact the the general consensus on the album is one of her best? Sure, let's ignore critical acclaim just because you have limited taste. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain. |

man, still digesting this album and I'm glad i opted to get the Target version with Love U For Life. MAN!!! IT'S DAT DEAL. In a bygone era when DJ'S had balls (and EARS), that joint would already be in rotation here in The D, bonus track nonwithstanding! It has a Rufus and Chaka Khan-esque feel to it IMO. I totally get why it bonus as it doesn't fit "thematically" but i'm glad she put it out there.
Promise of U is nice too. (kinda Sade-ish vibe) I think it COULD'VE fit (I'd swap out Dream Maker/Euphoria, that's the only track that feels like filler to me). But yeah, the thing is no KILLER singles, that's why SOME are struggling to appreciate it. She's spoiled us in that regard. BIU is the closest and it'll get u moving but... I'm glad No Sleep was a #1 for its intended audience |

I agree those are definitly some of the weaker tracks on the album.
WOW, nice find! I knew it was a sample but I didn't think it was lil mj, it sounds sped up and nice touch indeed!!!!

Janet Jackson “BURNITUP!” (featuring Missy Elliott) [Naughty Boy Remix / Single Premiere]
sorry Naughty Boy this REMIX IS HORRID!
After the promotion of the lead single “No Sleeep“, Jackson has confirmed the anticipated Missy Elliott-assisted track “BURNITUP!” as the second official cut from the album.
Besides, the singer has also confirmed this track as the proper lead single from the British market, which will be released with a special re-worked version made by Naughty Boy, who has recently collaborated with Beyoncé in his new single “Runnin’ (Lose It All)“.

No! 'Take me away' is my favourite track on the album. It is so carefree and reminiscent of 'feels so right' and 'someone to call me lover'
'2 be loved' is catchy as hell as one of the better up-tempo tracks
The only tracks I’m not keen on are 'well-travelled' - it’s a bit too cheesy for my liking and I can’t get into ‘dammn baby’. But they are tolerable. |

how can any janet fan want to dismiss this era? lets see...a new critically acclaimed studio album, a smash tour, headed for 7th #1 album that will give her a #1 album in 4 different decades, doing it on her own terms, negative media tides turned, finally nominated for RRHF...all while remaining low key and not embarassing herself. yeah i would say this era sucks. |

If someone thinks 20 Y.O. is one of Janet's best albums then it makes sense that the new one wouldn't appeal to them.

I knew it was MJ, and it is frustrating that I cant tell which song it is right now haha... It sounds like he's 14, so I'd say the era of Music & Me / skywriter/G.I.T (1972-1973)... When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace -Jimi Hendrix |
